Floating Islands, commonly referred to as Sky Islands, are found in the upper half of the Surface Layer. Only a few spawn in each world. Some of them only contain a lake (called a Sky Lake). Others contain a rectangular structure which can contain an item to make these bricks out of, but also Sky Chests that contain the Star Fury, an item that calls down stars as you attack.
These islands can also contain the Balloon accessory, which can be combined with each Bottle accessory to increase your jump height further. They also contain the Lucky Horseshoe, which removes fall damage.
Harpies spawn in this layer as well. Also Wyverns, a hardmode enemy that drop Souls of Flight for crafting wings.
