Walkthrough
  1. 1
Hunting and Cooking: Aim slightly below and to the left of your target, then throw a spear. A successful throw will one-shot most prey. Skin the corpse for a hide and collect meat. Cook the meat on a fire by pressing 'R' to cycle to it and 'C' to drop it on the flames. Eat the cooked meat ('E') to fully restore hunger, health, energy, and stamina. Cooked meat can be stored but will spoil over time.
  2. 2
Hides and Armor: Skinning animals yields hides. Lizard skins provide one point of armor each. Combine one lizard skin with 15 leaves to craft Stealth Armour, which reduces detection while sneaking.
  3. 3
Sneaking: Press LEFT CTRL (default) to sneak/crouch. This makes you harder to see and hear. When not near cover, crouch in a bush and sneak to make your visibility icon turn grey, often causing enemies to walk past. This does not work in caves.
  4. 4
Water: Find fresh water sources like pools and streams. Approach the edge and hold 'E' to drink. Forest water is contaminated and can cause health loss or infection. To purify water, collect it in an Old Pot and boil it over a fire (you will acquire an Old Pot later).
  5. 5
Objectives: As night approaches or after your first cannibal attack, you may receive an objective to 'SET UP DEFENSES'. This encourages base building, but its completion is not critical early on.
  6. 6
    Health and Infection:
  7. 7
Blood: If you are covered in blood, wash it off by standing in rain or deep water. Remaining bloody for too long can lead to infection, reducing energy and stamina.
  8. 8
Hypothermia: Avoid prolonged exposure to cold (water, rain). Build a fire and stand near it to dry off and remove the cold effect from your HUD, or stand in sunlight.
  9. 9
Aloe: Found near plane crash sites and edges of fresh water. It's used to actively remove disease and as an ingredient in natural curatives. Combine it with herbs to create healing items.
  10. 10
    Bones and Weapons:
  11. 11
Bones: Obtained from cannibal limbs (found in fetishes or harvested from killed cannibals). Cook limbs over a fire; either eat the cooked meat (can cause disease) to get bones, or let them burn longer to get bones directly.
  12. 12
    Upgraded Spear: Requires 3 bones.
  13. 13
Bone Armour: Crafted using bones. Each layer absorbs several strikes without health loss. Note: Armour protects against regular enemy attacks but not fire, falls, cold, or shark attacks.
  14. 14
Sanity: A semi-hidden stat. Check the Survival Guide's TODO page. Dropping below 90% sanity unlocks the Effigies page. Effigies can be placed to deter cannibals.
  15. 15
    Crafted Weapons:
  16. 16
Crafted Axe: 1 stick, 1 rope, 1 rock.
  17. 17
Crafted Club: 1 stick, 1 skull.
  18. 18
Dying: Dying grants a 'continue' effectively. If killed on land, the game allows you to respawn.
Tips
  • Practice throwing spears on large boulders to easily retrieve them.
  • Cook multiple pieces of meat simultaneously on a fire.
  • Store excess cooked meat, but be aware it spoils.
  • Combine aloe with herbs for potent healing items.
  • Prioritize crafting the Upgraded Spear and Bone Armour for early combat effectiveness.
  • Always harvest limbs from cannibals and corpses for bones.
  • Be mindful of your sanity level, especially when encountering disturbing elements.
