Navigate The Forest's Part 15 by locating crucial Caches for Old Gun parts and discovering the Hanging Cave. Learn optimal entrances and essential items.
This guide will tell you how to find Caches and navigate the Hanging Cave in The Forest.
CACHE 1: Head due south of the large village until you reach the shore. Turn east and follow the cliffs, staying close to the edge. You will find a pile of boulders; immediately east of this is CACHE 1.
NOTE: This is the first of eight Caches, each containing rope, Old Gun ammo, and a unique piece of the Old Gun (Flintlock Pistol). To open a Cache, use dynamite: light it with the Lighter, place it on the rubble with 'C', and stand back. Dynamite can be found in the large cannibal village. Other explosives can also be used. Old Gun parts respawn, but Cache ammo does not. Each Cache is marked by an Old Photo, which corresponds to the Cache number and the Old Gun part found inside. These photos are optional collectibles.
POINT OF INTEREST: West of the westernmost hut in the large cannibal village, at the south end, is a cluster of cannibal fetishes containing limbs. These are useful for farming bones for crafting.
POINT OF INTEREST: Find the hut at the south of the cannibal village by the cliff edge, which has a set of clothes. Look out over the water to see four small islands. Swim to the southernmost, largest island. From its highest point, face north (using a Compass or aiming at the larger island to the north). Run forward and jump into the water to find a floating log with ropes. At the bottom is the Rebreather cave containing the LOG COASTER PAGE (4/4), crossbow bolts, and a set of clothes. This is the first of three Page blueprints found in Rebreather caves, allowing new constructions. You'll need the Rebreather and air canisters for these caves.
3.6 DESTINATION 2: HANGING CAVE
The Hanging Cave is located at the north-western edge of the village, behind the huts, marked by a tall totem of skulls and a pile of boulders.
NOTE: It's good practice to build a Wood Bench, Basic Fire, and Shelter at cave entrances for full health/energy and a save point.
NOTE: Stealth is useful in caves. Consider crafting Stealth Armour (15 leaves, 1 lizard skin) and Rabbit Fur Boots (2 ropes, 3 rabbit hides).
At some point, you should receive objectives: EXPLORE HANGING CAVE and KEEP EXPLORING HANGING CAVE. These may not trigger immediately upon entering and finding items like the Map and Compass.
Entrances
- Entrance 1 (SE): South-east corner of the map, west edge of the large cannibal village. Marked by boulders, skulls, and totems. Leads directly to the Map and Compass.
- Entrance 2 (N): Near a small village with four huts, beside a large pond in the map's x-axis center. Head east and slightly north of the village. (Stand with your back to the fire post farthest from the water, look past the right side of the hut you are facing, then walk forward.)
- Entrance 3 (SW): Almost due south of Entrance 2 (N). Stand in the small village with your right side to the water, left side to the back of the hut closest to the water, then run forward. Found at the side of a large clearing. This entrance leads into the Baby Cave and is recommended as an exit rather than an entrance.

Preparation
The Hanging Cave is dangerous, with enemies including mutants. The most dangerous areas are often the least rewarding. For your first cave, consider the following (applies to all caves):
If you need to save in a cave without a save point, build a Temporary Shelter (14 sticks, 17 leaves, no logs required).
