Find the Modern Axe, learn about Head Bombs, and face mutants in The Forest Part 18.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Locate a passage with a long rope leading down, marked by a hanging skull. This cave is rich in supplies like paint, clothes, and arrows.
  2. 2
Consider building the Crafted Bow, as it's your best ranged weapon until the Modern Bow, capable of one-shotting cannibals with a headshot (a headshot from an arrow can even one-shot any cannibal). Spent arrows respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) in places you find them.
  3. 3
Inside this cave, find more Hairspray, dynamite in crates, the MEDICAL EXAMINER'S REPORT, and the MODERN AXE on top of some boxes.
  4. 4
The Modern Axe is a powerful main weapon, excellent for melee combat, blocking, and upgrades using teeth (from cannibals) and tree sap. Ignore upgrading its speed.
  5. 5
The Modern Axe can chop off limbs and heads, providing bones for Head Bombs (severed head + explosive), the most powerful explosives in the game. Creating a Head Bomb consumes the head.
  6. 6
The Modern Axe is also faster for chopping trees and bushes.
  7. 7
Return to the top of the rope, turn right, hug the right wall until you find another plane seat. Jump onto a plank board, turn right, and find another hanging skull.
  8. 8
Head west along a tunnel, squeeze through a gap to enter the Baby Cave.
  9. 9
Warning: The Baby Cave may be occupied by a Virginia and several babies, which are dangerous mutants.
  10. 10
Mutants like Armsy, Cowman, and Virginia can be skinned for Creepy Armour, which is twice as effective as Bone Armour but reduces stealth.
  11. 11
Use explosives against mutants; Molotovs are effective against babies but not large mutants.
  12. 12
The main cave contains baby corpses, laptops, and magazines, none of which are collectible.
  13. 13
In the second section of the cave, climb over a rise, pass corpses, and look for two candles high on your right. Walk between them to find a rope leading up to Hanging Cave's Entrance 3 (SW).
  14. 14
In the extreme west of the Baby Cave's third section, find useful supplies and CASSETTE 2 at the very top.
  15. 15
Leave the Hanging Cave via the Baby Cave's Entrance 3 (SW).
  16. 16
Due north of Entrance 3 (SW), by a pond, is a small village with clothes and an Old Pot.
  17. 17
The Old Pot is a cooking item that allows you to boil water safely.
  18. 18
Find CACHE 3 inside one of the huts in this village.
  19. 19
Head west from Entrance 3 (SW), then veer south to the shore to find the Yacht.
  20. 20
On the beach north of the Yacht, find a marked grave with the YACHT PHOTOGRAPH and CASSETTE 5. Supplies are also in nearby cases.
  21. 21
Board the Yacht to find the YACHT MAGAZINE, VIRGINIA PHOTOGRAPH, MILK CARTON, and 'TEDDY ON YACHT' PHOTOGRAPH.
  22. 22
You can also find the CASSETTE PLAYER and CASSETTE 1 on the Yacht if not previously collected.
  23. 23
A locked door requires the Gold Keycard. Pictures of an artifact and a severed head are also present. You can save and rest here.
Tips
  • Place a Stick Marker near the top of the first rope for easy return, as the cave is full of useful supplies.
  • The Crafted Bow is essential for ranged combat until the Modern Bow is found.
  • Retrieve spent arrows whenever possible, as they respawn.
  • The Modern Axe is your primary melee weapon; focus upgrades on damage.
  • Head Bombs are the most powerful explosives; manage your collected heads to craft them.
  • The Modern Axe is superior for chopping trees and bushes.
  • If fighting mutants, use explosives and avoid melee combat.
  • Consider placing a Skull Lamp near the rope to Hanging Cave's Entrance 3 (SW) when safe.
  • The Old Pot allows you to safely consume boiled water.
