Navigate The Forest's Laboratory in Part 30 of our walkthrough. Discover lore, essential items, and prepare for dangers within this critical story location.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Begin by entering the Laboratory via the Sinkhole Cave. Note that building is prohibited, meaning no saving or resting.
  2. 2
The Laboratory is primarily for environmental storytelling, revealing the game's mysteries. Be cautious, as dying here means a long trek back from the Sinkhole Cave save point.
  3. 3
In the first corridor, find red paint. Use it, then climb the rope to find bones and meds. Follow the tunnel to a hole in the floor – this is a point of no return.
  4. 4
The red paint offers protection against cannibals. While it's generally advised to avoid fights (no fires for bone farming, risk of bloodstains), you can still get teeth for weapon upgrades or heads for head bombs.
  5. 5
Attack the nitrogen tank at a door to make it explode. Find the 'MEGAN CROSS' FILE near two more nitrogen tanks before dropping into floor vents. Go left for lore, bones, and meds.
  6. 6
Find and climb another rope to reach the Cafeteria. This area offers recovery points: eat meals, use coffee machines and water coolers, and buy snacks/sodas from vending machines using coins (100 coins each). Collect all coins you can find.
  7. 7
Circuit boards and booze are also available. Sitting on chairs recovers energy/stamina and grants invulnerability.
  8. 8
Jump into a roof vent via broken pipes, then drop through another hole (landing on a pipe to break your fall) into the Observation Centre. Find the 'ETHICAL SCIENTIST' MAGAZINE and observe lore, but ignore non-collectible items like the 'When I Grow Up I Want To Be A Game Developer' Book.
  9. 9
Before proceeding through the red door, equip cheap armor and a blocking melee weapon. Be prepared for babies (three in the source game), who are dangerous and can one-shot you. Block, move carefully, or use arrows. Watch for one camping in the right corridor.
  10. 10
In the next area, two armsies are present. The first is dead, but the second is in the second half of Observation. Sneak past him by going left, waiting for him to swipe at the wall, then sneaking into the next room.
  11. 11
Climb into vents again, collecting MEGAN'S CRAYONS and the FLOWERS DRAWING. Drop through another hole into Orientation – another point of no return.
  12. 12
Examine the slideshow for information on the Jarius Project. Find a water cooler in the next corridor. The room beyond contains the ARTIFACT DRAWING. Across the hall, find the EMPLOYEE TERMINATION MEMO in the photocopier, with a free meal nearby (save it if possible).
  13. 13
Wall maps indicate you are on Level G, below the forest floor, and mention an unvisited Observation Level.
  14. 14
A cannibal may be camping in the corridor beyond.
Tips
  • Equip the Rebreather and keep it topped up, as there's a Rebreather tunnel at the end of the Lab.
  • Maximize healing items (meds and herbs) and ensure you have a melee weapon with good block (Modern or Rusty Axe recommended).
  • Bring as many throwables as possible (molotovs, dynamite, explosives, head bomb).
  • Collect all available coins, as vending machines are expensive and a potential source of food.
  • Sitting on chairs in the Cafeteria provides invulnerability and stamina recovery.
  • Avoid unnecessary fights with cannibals; focus on obtaining teeth for upgrades or heads for head bombs if needed.
  • The nitrogen tank explosion can be used to your advantage.
The Laboratory provides crucial lore, essential story items like the Artifact Key, and allows for resource gathering (coins, food, crafting materials) necessary for progression. The main reward is understanding the game's narrative and obtaining items needed for future challenges.
