Guide to Part 28 of The Settlers: Rise of an Empire. Learn how to defend Montecito against Sabatt's forces and manage resources effectively.
Walkthrough
- 1Initial Defense: Upon starting, you'll face an introduction sequence. Save immediately after to skip it on replays. You begin with a partially built settlement and some controlled territories. Sabatt's forces are already active in the area.
- 2Montecito Defense: Your primary objective is to protect Montecito for the full 1 hour and 30-minute timer. While other villages may request aid, these are not required for victory.
- 3Early Game Strategy: Sabatt will not attack immediately. Use this time to build up your economy. Start with about 4 woodcutters, a fisherman to the north, and a hunter to the north and west. Upgrade one grain farm and delete the other. Prioritize upgrading woodcutters and hunters before other retail buildings.
- 4Resource Management: You start with 2 stone quarries and 1 iron mine. You'll likely need to secure the southwest territory for more iron later. To quickly resupply your army, build two swordsmiths and two bowmakers. Also, construct a siege engine workshop when possible.
- 5Dealing with Plague: Sabatt may send thieves to infect your city with plague. Build an herb gatherer and 2 pharmacies early, or purchase medicine from the western cloister when needed.
- 6Harbor Trader: The harbor trader will visit periodically. You have until the second arrival message before Sabatt attacks the north village. This attack is minor and not critical to victory.
- 7Village Aid (Optional): You can send wood to villages to help them build walls, which can repel enemy forces. However, the eastern village is small and may still be vulnerable to catapults. Protecting all villages is possible but not required.
- 8Attacking Sabatt's Camp: After surviving for 7 minutes, you'll receive a message to assault Sabatt's main camp in the northeast.
- 9Direct Assault on Sabatt: If you choose to attack Sabatt directly, be aware she can build mounted catapults. Bring 3-4 of your own catapults or wait out the 60-minute timer on 3x speed for an easier victory.
- 10Ruins: There is a ruin worth 80 gold next to the stone in the northeast territory, and another worth 125 gold next to the stone in the east territory.
Tips
- Save the game immediately after the introduction sequence to skip it on future playthroughs.
- Do not overbuild woodcutters early on, as they require food and can lead to food shortages.
- Upgrade your outposts when possible to better defend your territories, especially your grain farms.
- Consider building up to Duke rank to access catapults for later use.
- Mercenaries from the harbor trader are generally not recommended.
- Focus on your primary objective of defending Montecito; assisting other villages is secondary.
