How to Beat Major Environmental Threats

Learn how to tackle major environmental threats in The Universim! This guide covers essential early-game construction and resource management to ensure your civilization thrives.

Alright, so you've booted up The Universim and you're ready to guide your little nuggets to glory, but you're wondering how to deal with all the environmental stuff that can mess things up? Don't sweat it, I've got your back. This isn't about fighting aliens or anything, but more about setting up your civilization right from the get-go so Mother Nature doesn't smack you down.

First off, the game's gonna give you a quick tutorial. It's a good idea to pay attention to that, especially if you're new to this kind of god-game. It'll show you the ropes on camera controls and what your main goal is.

Then you land on your starting planet, the 'Mother Planet'. It's randomly generated, so each playthrough feels fresh, but it'll have familiar stuff like water, forests, and seasons. This is your sandbox, your canvas to build a civilization.

The very first thing you'll place is the Epicenter. This is super important. It's where your first four nuggets (two adults, two kids) pop into existence. Think of it as your town hall. When you're placing it, try to find a spot that's close to a water source, some trees, and loose rocks. Why? Because your nuggets need those resources to survive, build, and advance. Less walking means more doing, simple as that. Just left-click where you want it, and confirm.

Construction is Key

Now that you've got your Epicenter down and your nuggets are milling about, it's time to get the essentials sorted.

Water, Water Everywhere (Hopefully)

With your initial crew, the adults will start gathering stuff. Your first priority? A Well. Click that hammer icon at the bottom left to open the Buildings menu, find the Well under the Epicenter category, and place it. You'll see numbers floating around your mouse as you place it – higher numbers mean a better water source. Get it near water!

While that's building, think about your water strategy. You can build more Water Pumps, or go for Fisher Piers if you've got multiple bodies of water. More water sources just mean faster resource gathering for both drinking water and food. Once the Well is done, get a Water Pump going, as most buildings need it to function.

Feeding Your People

After the water situation is stable, you need food. You can stick with fishing, or build Farms. If you go the farm route, you might need another Water Pump to keep those crops happy. Different crops have different needs – some like specific biomes or temperatures, some grow fast and give less food, others take ages but yield more. For a beginner, it's usually best to pick the crop that needs the least water to start.

Keeping Things Running (Maintenance)

As your population grows, you'll need to think about upkeep. Build an Engineer's Hut next. This lets your engineers repair buildings. If your buildings fall apart, you'll waste resources rebuilding them from scratch. Also, consider a Hospital or a Cemetery. Injured nuggets lose health, and dead ones can spread illness if not buried. A plague can wipe out your progress fast, so stay on top of health and hygiene!

The Little Extras

Once the basics are covered, you can add some conveniences. An Eatery lets you turn raw food into prepared meals, which is more efficient. A Forecast Tower will give you a heads-up on upcoming weather and seasons, so you can prepare for droughts or blizzards.

Keep Building, Keep Growing

The core loop of The Universim is pretty straightforward: as your population booms, you'll need to build more of everything – more water pumps, more farms, more hospitals. Just keep expanding and adapting to the planet's challenges. Happy guiding!
