Once your Epicenter is down and you've got a couple of Nuggets running around, your first priority after a basic water source (like a Well) is to think about food.

You've got two main paths for food: fishing or farming. If you've got a couple of decent-sized bodies of water near your Epicenter, you can build Fisher Piers. These are pretty straightforward and give you a steady food income. However, if you want to maximize your food production or if water sources are a bit scarce, you'll want to build Farms.
