Follow this guide to complete "Questing the Outskirts (Part I)" in The Witcher, including rescuing Vesna, dealing with Haren Brogg, and fighting Drowners and Barghests.
Walkthrough
- 1After talking to Vesna in the Country Inn, find her at night being harassed by bandits. Intervene to save her.
- 2Vesna asks to be escorted home. Agree to protect her.
- 3Take the western path towards town. Stay close to Vesna.
- 4At the second "Eternal Fire Shrine", two Barghests will attack. Defeat them.
- 5At the third "Eternal Fire Shrine", three Barghests will attack. Defeat them.
- 6Reach Vesna's house. She will ask how she can repay you. Choose to ask for a date (first option) or leave (second option).
- 7If you ask for a date, Vesna will tell you to meet her by the Mill at dusk tomorrow and to bring wine.
- 8Head to Haren Brogg's House by the riverside.
- 9Show Haren the ring from the Reverend to gain his trust.
- 10Ask Haren about dice and beat him in a match to secure your second Novice victory.
- 11Ask Haren what he sells and buy the Blue Meteorite for 300 Orens if you have the money.
- 12Ask Haren about Witcher's work. He will tell you about Drowners, starting the "Strangers in the Night" quest.
- 13Head east from Haren's house towards the Merchant's Bridge.
- 14Kill approximately eight Drowners that attack along the way.
- 15After killing the Drowners, a Scoia'tael elf will appear and demand Haren's goods. You have a choice:
- 16Refuse to hand over the goods: You will have to fight the Scoia'tael leader (a Dwarf) and two Elven fighters.
- 17Hand over the goods: You will receive 200 Orens from the Scoia'tael. Note that this choice has consequences for an NPC in the next chapter.
Tips
- If you don't intervene to save Vesna, she will die, and you will miss the quest and the "Vesna" Sex Card.
- Vesna has more health than a normal Townsperson but can still be killed easily. Stay close to her during the escort.
- The "Eternal Fire Shrines" seem to attract Barghests rather than repel them.
- Once Haren Brogg trusts you (after showing him the Reverend's ring), you can rest at his house for free.
- When fighting the Drowners, you will likely encounter them in groups of three or four at a time.
- Refusing the Scoia'tael and fighting them is the recommended path to avoid negative consequences for an NPC in the next chapter, despite the potential loss of 200 Orens and a fight.
- Rescuing Vesna: 500 XP
- Escorting Vesna home: 1000 XP
- Defeating a second Novice player (Haren Brogg): 100 XP
