Your primary goal in this section is to infiltrate the Sunken Archives and access its central data core. This mission requires navigating both hostile coastal defenses and the perilous depths of the ocean floor. Prepare for a shift in combat dynamics as you transition to underwater engagements.

Phase 1: Locating and Activating the Submersible

The journey to the Sunken Archives begins at the Submersible Dock, situated along the treacherous Neo-Kyoto coastline. This area is a high-security zone, so approach with caution.

• Specific Location: From the last checkpoint, head directly east along the coastline. Look for a distinctive, dilapidated industrial pier extending into the water. The Submersible Dock is located beneath this pier, partially submerged. A flickering neon sign, barely legible as "Deepwater Access," marks the entrance.
• Coastal Defenses:
  • Automated Turrets (x3): These fixed emplacements are highly accurate. Prioritize destroying them from cover. Use your Pulse Rifle to target their glowing optical sensors for critical damage. A well-aimed charged shot can disable them quickly.
  • Patrol Bots (x5-7): These agile ground units will attempt to flank you. Utilize environmental cover (crates, ruined structures) and engage them one by one. Your Energy Blade is effective for close-quarters combat once their shields are down, but maintain distance if possible to avoid their shockwave attacks.
• Activating the Submersible: Once the area is clear, proceed to the main console within the dock. Interact with the glowing blue panel to initiate the submersible's launch sequence. Be prepared for a brief loading screen as you transition to the underwater environment.

Phase 2: Navigating the Sunken Archives - Underwater Combat & Exploration

Upon entering the Sunken Archives, the environment and combat mechanics will change significantly. Your movement will be slower, and certain abilities will behave differently. Adapt your strategy accordingly.

Underwater Combat Strategies:

Underwater combat emphasizes ranged engagements and strategic use of environmental hazards. Your Energy Blade's effectiveness is severely reduced due to water resistance, making your Pulse Rifle your primary weapon.

• Pulse Rifle: This is your go-to weapon. Its projectiles are less affected by water, maintaining good accuracy and damage. Aim for critical spots (glowing eyes, exposed power cores) on enemies. Consider equipping the 'Hydro-Penetrator' mod if you have it, which increases projectile velocity underwater.
• Shockwave Abilities: If you have acquired any Shockwave abilities, they become invaluable here. These area-of-effect attacks are highly effective at stunning or damaging multiple underwater enemies, bypassing the reduced effectiveness of melee attacks.
  • Acquisition: Shockwave abilities are typically unlocked through specific Cero: Core Abilities & Upgrades. Check your character menu under 'Cero Abilities' for any unlocked skills like 'Concussive Blast' or 'Sonic Pulse'. These often require spending 'Data Fragments' or completing specific side quests.   • Usage: Deploy these abilities when surrounded or to interrupt enemy attacks. They have a short cooldown but can turn the tide of a difficult encounter.
• Environmental Hazards: Look for explosive barrels or unstable rock formations that can be triggered with a few Pulse Rifle shots to damage nearby enemies.

Enemy Encounters:

• Hydro-Drones (x8-10 throughout):
  • Description: Small, agile flying drones equipped with rapid-fire energy cannons. They often attack in swarms.
  • Strategy: Prioritize these threats. Their small size makes them hard to hit, but they have low health. Use your Pulse Rifle's auto-aim assist (if enabled) or quick, precise shots. If a group is clustered, a well-timed Shockwave ability can clear them out. Avoid getting surrounded, as their combined fire can quickly deplete your shields.
• Abyssal Lurkers (x4-6 throughout):
  • Description: Larger, heavily armored aquatic creatures that resemble mutated crustaceans. They possess powerful claw attacks and can emit a localized sonic burst.
  • Strategy: These are tougher opponents. Target their glowing weak points, usually on their underbelly or joints, with sustained Pulse Rifle fire. When they charge, dodge sideways to avoid their claw swipe. If they begin to glow, prepare to use a Shockwave ability or boost away quickly to avoid their sonic burst, which can stun you. They are slow, so kiting them and maintaining distance is a viable strategy.

Navigation Challenges:

The Sunken Archives are not just about combat; environmental navigation plays a crucial role.

• Strong Currents: Certain sections are plagued by powerful underwater currents that will push you off course.
  • Solution 1: Sheltered Passages: Always look for smaller, less exposed conduits or rock formations that offer protection from the main current. These often lead to the correct path.
  • Solution 2: Current Stabilizers: Keep an eye out for glowing, cylindrical devices embedded in the environment. Activating these 'Current Stabilizers' (by interacting with them) will temporarily neutralize the current in a localized area, allowing you to pass safely. There are three such stabilizers on the path to the Archive Core.
• Low Visibility: Some areas have reduced visibility due to sediment or bioluminescent flora. Rely on your mini-map and environmental cues (glowing pipes, structural outlines) to guide you.

Phase 3: Reaching the Archive Core

Continue to descend through the archives, following the main structural integrity beams and activated emergency lights. You will encounter a final, more intense wave of Hydro-Drones and Abyssal Lurkers guarding the approach to the core.

• Final Approach: After navigating the last strong current, you will arrive at a large, circular chamber. The Archive Core is housed behind a massive, reinforced blast door at the center of this chamber.
• Blast Door Activation: To open the blast door, you will need to activate two separate control panels located on opposite sides of the chamber. Be prepared for a final ambush as you attempt to activate each panel.
• Access Granted: Once both panels are activated, the blast door will slowly retract, granting you access to the Archive Core and completing this objective.
