The Essence Transfer NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you), Zamina, is located in Westmarch, on the southwestern end of Rakkis Plaza. While she is available from your first visit, you cannot use her services until you have accumulated enough legendary gear, potentially requiring at least one duplicate legendary.

You can gain legendary drops more quickly by spending money on Legendary Crests for Elder Rifts. If you choose not to spend money, you will likely need to reach around level forty to accumulate enough legendary drops.

    Speak to Zamina and select the “Essence Transfer” option.

    Choose either “Extract” or “Inherit”.

    To Extract: Select “Extract” and a list of legendary gear will appear, organized by type. Legendary gear in your inventory (not equipped) will be highlighted. Select the gear you wish to extract from. This process will destroy the selected legendary gear and requires a nominal gold fee.

    To Inherit: Select “Inherit” and you will see a list of your equipped legendary gear. You can toggle to see legendary gear in your inventory. Pick the legendary item you wish to inherit a property onto. Select “Inherit” on the bottom right. A side-by-side comparison will show the before and after properties. Select the empty box under “After Inheritance” to bring up a list of your extracted legendary properties that the selected gear can inherit.

Important Notes for Inheritance:

  • Legendary gear can only inherit properties from legendaries of the same type (e.g., legendary helmets can only inherit properties from other legendary helmets).
  • Legendary gear cannot inherit redundant properties (a property it already possesses).
Tips
  • Use Essence Transfer to move powerful legendary properties from obsolete gear onto statistically superior gear that may have less desirable properties for your build.
  • Farming for higher-level legendary gear relevant to your build becomes less painful with Essence Transfer, as early desirable legendary properties are not lost.
