Memories Lane

A complete guide to Dragon Quest VIII's Memories Lane, detailing strategies for Geyzer, Tormented Soul, and Trap Box super bosses, plus item locations.

Memories Lane is an optional area in Dragon Quest VIII that unlocks after completing the Dragovian Trials. It contains several challenging super boss fights. To access it, Zoom to Marta's Cottage, enter her cave, and proceed through the jail door to find a glowing spot on the floor that leads to Memories Lane.

It is highly recommended to be Level 75 and have the best available gear for all party members. Essential accessories include Meteorite Bracers, Sage's Stones, Catholicon Rings, and the Timbrel of Tensions. Equipment that protects against magic, fire, and ice attacks is also advised.

Purple Chests in this area offer superior loot compared to Blue Chests and can be looted once per day. You can leave and return to Memories Lane as needed. Each boss must be fought once per playthrough. Bosses can perform two to three actions per turn.

Geyzer in Memoriam

HP: 4,200

Attacks: Claw Strike, Cursed Mist (Chance to Curse All Allies)

Strategy: Geyzer frequently uses Cursed Mist, which can curse all party members except the Hero. There is no known item to protect against Curse. The Hero should use Psyche Up to 50 and then Attack. Yangus should simply Attack. Angelo should cast Oomph on the Hero and then Attack. Jessica should spam Timbrel of Tension. Characters with Tension should attack to maximize damage.

After the battle, a chest contains an Elfin Elixir and an Ethereal Stone. A Purple Chest is also present.

Tormented Soul in Memoriam

HP: 5,000

Drops: Seed of Wisdom

Attacks: Summon Help (Summons monsters), Buff (Applies status buffs), Oomph (Doubles a Monster's Physical Attack Power)

Strategy: This boss is accompanied by two supporting monsters. Killing the support monsters is recommended, but be aware that the boss may summon more if they are defeated. The Hero should use Timbrel of Tension, then Attack, and be ready to Heal. Yangus should Psyche Up and Attack. Angelo should cast Oomph on Yangus and focus on Healing. Jessica should use Timbrel of Tension, potentially cast Oomph if needed, and use Twin Dragon Lash once at 50 Tension.

The next room contains chests with Mini Medal #133 and Thanatos' Shield, along with a Purple Chest.

Trap Box in Memoriam

HP: 5,500

Drops: Seed of Agility

Attacks: Smash, Critical Hit, Kafuddle (Chance to confuse), Kathwack (Chance to Instantly-Kill)

Strategy: This boss can confuse, instantly kill, and has a high critical hit rate. Catholicon Rings are highly recommended for this battle. The Hero should use Timbrel of Tension, then Attack, and be prepared to Heal. Yangus should Psyche Up and Attack. Angelo should cast Oomph on Yangus and focus on Healing. Jessica should use Timbrel of Tension and may need to use Kazing. If afflicted with confusion, focus on survival and healing.
