Optional - Stella's Codexes

Learn how to complete the optional Stella's Codexes side quest in Dragon Quest VIII by photographing Stella in five different colored outfits. Includes spawn locations and strategy.

Your goal for these codex entries is to photograph Stella in five different coloured outfits. The outfit colours that she shows up in are random, so she could potentially show up in something that you've already photographed. She also randomly spawns in one of five fixed locations. You can only do this once per day, so it can take at least 120 hours to complete.

Possible Spawn Locations

• Floating near the red tree southeast of Farebury
• On the northern cliffs, overlooking the lake south of Ascantha
• Floating east of the Dragon Graveyard on top of the sand dunes
• Blizzard Peak region. Search by a tree in the southwest deadend
• Floating around the top of the hill south of Empycchu

Recommended Strategy

1. SAVE before you start a new day of searching. It is recommended to save at Empycchu.
2. Run in and out of the town for 15 - 20 minutes. Stella will not immediately spawn on the world map when you resume playing once the quest opens up. Empycchu is used as it has the closest search location.
3. Search all of the locations until you find her. She stays fixed in a location.
4. One of two things can happen when you find her:
   • She is wearing an outfit that you need a picture of. Take a photo of her and then speak with her. This will start the 24 hour clock to begin the search again.
   • She is wearing an outfit that you already have a picture of. DO NOT SPEAK WITH HER. If this occurs, reset the game and start over from Step 2.
5. SAVE the game and wait 24 hours to do this all over again. Make a note of the colours that you have already photographed.

IMPORTANT: Speaking with Stella will ALWAYS start the 24 hour clock, so make sure you have the photo that you want before speaking with her. Every time you speak with Stella she will give you an item, typically a rare one like Orichalcum.
