True Ending

Uncover the steps to achieving the True Ending in Dragon Quest VIII. Learn how to defeat the Lord of Dragovians, obtain the Argon Ring, and make the right choices.

Alright, so you're aiming for the *real* ending in Dragon Quest VIII? Awesome! It's a bit of a trek, but totally worth it. First things first, you'll need to have conquered the Heavenly Dais dungeon and taken down the Lord of Dragovians. Make sure you've also snagged the Argon Ring from him.

Once you've got that shiny Argon Ring, head back to Empyrea. She's chilling on the Isolated Plateau. Just a heads-up, make sure you've got an open spot in your active party because Empyrea needs to give you the Godbird Sceptre. After that, she'll whisk you away to face Rhapthorne again. You'll have to fight both of his forms, so hopefully, you're pretty over-leveled by now. My Jessica managed to one-shot him with a 100 Psyche Magic Burst, so you might be in for a similar experience!

The stuff that happens in Castle Trodain is pretty much the same as before. Just make your way up to the third floor and have a chat with Medea.

After that, you'll eventually regain control in a new spot: the Lord High Priest's Residence. Head upstairs and go into his office. You'll see King Clavius out on the balcony. Go join him and strike up a conversation. He'll ask you something, and you need to say "Yes" to show him the Argon Ring. After a bit more dialogue, you'll get another prompt.

Note: If you're aiming for the original endings, just dip out of the Lord High Priest's Residence without talking to Clavius.

Anyway, to keep the story moving, you'll need to leave the Lord High Priest's Residence. You'll wake up in the Inn. From there, just exit the Inn and follow the same sequence of events you did for the original ending.

When you enter the Cathedral, you'll see a new cutscene that wasn't there before. Just sit back and watch the new events unfold. And that's pretty much it! Hope you enjoyed your journey through Dragon Quest VIII!
