Learn how to unlock and play the Paladin Life in FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time. Discover the best skills, tips, and strategies for this sword-and-board combat class.

Hey there! So you're thinking about diving into the Paladin Life in FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time? Awesome choice! It's one of the lives you can grab right from the start, and it uses the Guild Office in Eternia Village, which is super convenient when you're just getting going. You'll get a quest called Visit the Guild Office pretty early on, around Chapter 1, after they tell you to start a new Life. Just head to the Guild Hall, chat with Auntie Anne, and you can pick Paladin (or any other Life, really!). It's a good idea to have at least one combat Life, though, because trying to get through the game without fighting might be a bit of a challenge. Once you've chosen Paladin, find Cuna, the master Paladin, and she'll give you your first novice quest. It's pretty straightforward – just go take down some wolves, and bam, you'll be a Fledgling Paladin!

The Paladin is all about getting up close and personal, swinging a sword and blocking with a shield. Blocking at the right time is great, but honestly, you can do just fine even if you don't worry too much about perfect blocks. As you level up, you'll even unlock skills that let you counter-attack when you block! While their raw damage might not match up to something like the Mercenary, Paladins really shine with their defense. They've got skills to soak up damage and boost your defense, magic defense, and elemental resistances, making you a real tank.

But here's the really cool part: Paladins can also throw out some awesome blade beams! Their Charge Attack, Sonic Blade, and their Special Attack, Saintly Slash, both shoot out beams. Sonic Blade III, which you unlock at Adept rank, is a game-changer. It fires three beams in a spread, and if you're close enough or fighting a big enemy, multiple beams can hit at once for massive damage. This makes the Paladin super versatile, blurring the lines between melee and ranged combat. Just keep in mind that Sonic Blade uses up a good chunk of SP, so if you run out, your offense will slow down quite a bit.

When you're thinking about which skills to unlock first, definitely prioritize Sonic Blade. Even the early version is way better than just mashing your sword. After that, grab every SP+ skill you can find, especially SP Recovery +, to keep your energy up. Unlocking Saintly Slash is another good early goal once you have Sonic Blade and your SP skills sorted. Then, work towards Sonic Blade III. If you need to buy skills to progress, Attack + and Critical Rate+ are solid choices. After those, dabbling in the defense skills before you hit Expert rank isn't a bad idea at all.

So, the skill priority generally looks like this: Sonic Blade, SP skills, Saintly Slash, and then Attack/Critical buffs. Happy smiting!
