This guide covers the story-related trophies in Final Fantasy X-2. These trophies are generally unmissable or tied to specific story progression points.
Unmissable Trophies
The following trophies are awarded for defeating specific bosses as part of the main story progression:
- Defeating an Old Friend: Defeat Bahamut
- Dousing the Fire: Defeat Zalamander
- Machine of War: Defeat Vegnagun
- Zeroed Out: Defeat YSLS-Zero
Good Listener
Details: Listen to all of Maechen's stories.
To unlock this trophy, you must speak to Maechen whenever possible and listen to his entire story without skipping dialogue. Maechen can be found in the following locations:
- Youth League HQ at Mushroom Rock Road in Chapter 1
- Logos’ Room in Guadosalam in Chapter 3
- Celsius’ Bridge after the concert in Chapter 4
- Zanarkand Ruins in Chapter 5
Millionaire
Details: Pay off O'aka's debt.
In Chapter 1 or 2, enter Lake Macalania. Speak to O'aka when he appears outside the agency and follow him into the Macalania Woods. Complete the 'Follow that O’aka!' mission by finding him two screens north of the spring where Yuna and Tidus had their romance scene. Allow O'aka onboard the Celsius to begin paying off his 100,000 gil debt. The easiest way to earn 100,000 gil is to enter Guadosalam in Chapter 2 with at least 10,000 gil. Save your game, enter the inn, and buy data from the innkeeper. If the hint is not 'It’s the last person you’d expect,' reload until it is, then sell the data back for 100,000 gil. Use this gil to pay O'aka's debt to unlock the trophy.
Complete Episode
Details: Complete an episode in Chapter 5.
Achieve an Episode Complete status in any location during Chapter 5 to unlock this trophy. If you have been following the main walkthrough, achieving Episode Complete in every location should be straightforward.
Treasure Hunter
Details: Open the chest that includes the Ribbon in the Bevelle Underground.
The Ribbon can be found in the Bevelle Underground during the 'Infiltrate Bevelle' mission, starting at the end of Chapter 2. It is located relatively early in the dungeon, in the room with security towers after aligning the first three platforms. To reach it, align the next three platforms to form a downward spiral. In the room with six towers (three blue, three red), red towers select a platform, and blue towers rotate it clockwise or counter-clockwise. Starting from the first red tower (where you fight Precepts Guard) and moving counter-clockwise, the towers are:
- Tower 1: Advance the selected plate clockwise one step. (Battle Precepts Guard)
- Tower 2: Select the sixth (bottom-most) platform.
- Tower 3: Advance the selected plate counter-clockwise one step. (Battle Georapella)
- Tower 4: Select the fifth platform.
- Tower 5: Advance a plate three spots.
- Tower 6: Select the fourth plate.
If you haven't touched any towers after aligning the first three platforms, follow these steps:
- Activate tower 6 to select the fourth plate.
- Activate tower 1 four times (clockwise).
- Activate tower 2 to select the sixth platform.
- Activate tower 1 two times (clockwise).
- Activate tower 4 to select the fifth platform.
- Activate tower 5 one time to move the fifth platform three places.
Once the downward spiral is formed, descend to collect the Ribbon and unlock the trophy. If missed in Chapter 2, Bevelle Underground can be revisited at the end of Chapter 3 (after Kilika Temple) and in Chapter 5.
Dancing Queen
Details: Obtain Magical Dances, Vol. II.
Magical Dances, Vol. II is a key item that allows the Songstress to learn the Magical Masque ability. This item is dropped by Experiment in Djose Temple after leveling it up to its maximum level (Level 5) in Chapter 5. To level up Experiment, dig for parts on Bikanel Island until you accumulate enough points. Obtain a digging license from Gippal at Djose Temple in Chapters 1 or 2, then go to Bikanel Island. Attack, Defense, and Special parts are found at yellow 'X' marks and contribute points to Experiment's stats. Digging up 'Assembly' parts (A, S, or Z) is key: A parts are worth 1 point, S parts are worth 3 points, and Z parts are worth 5 points. For example, a Special Assembly S part adds 3 points to Experiment's Special stat. Once each stat (Attack, Defense, Special) reaches 38 points (Level 5), defeat the Experiment at Djose Temple to obtain Magical Dances, Vol. II.
Sweet Perfection
Details: Complete 100% of the main story.
This trophy unlocks upon reaching 100% story completion. It is possible to achieve this in a single playthrough. The trophy unlocks the moment 100% completion is reached; beating the game with 100% completion is not a requirement.
