Alright, let's talk about how characters in Fire Emblem: Awakening get closer to each other – it's called Support Relationships, and it's pretty important for your army!

Basically, when characters fight together a lot or just hang out near each other on the battlefield, they build up a Support Rank. The higher the rank, the more they like each other. This isn't just for flavor; it actually gives them bonuses when they're fighting side-by-side.

Now, the ultimate goal for many of these relationships is reaching an 'S Rank' support. This is a special level of support that can only happen between characters of opposite genders, and importantly, they can't be related (like siblings or parent/child – the game is pretty strict about that!). When two characters achieve S Rank, they get married!

Why is marriage a big deal? Well, after you complete Chapter 13, you'll unlock special side-quests. These quests let you recruit the children of the characters who got married. These kids are super cool because they inherit stats and skills from both their parents, making them potentially very powerful additions to your army. So, if you want those powerful children units, you'll need to pay attention to who's pairing up!

Just a heads-up, while your main character, the Avatar, can support anyone of the opposite gender, meaning they can marry pretty much anyone, other characters have more limited options.

It's worth noting that Fire Emblem: Awakening isn't the first game in the series to feature marriage; that honor goes to Genealogy of the Holy War.
