The HOLD Y actions in Gears of War 3 involve specific melee attacks and weapon executions. These are best practiced in campaign mode, with the exception of the Arm Rip which can only be performed by Locust. The available HOLD Y actions and associated weapons are:

Several achievements are tied to various in-game challenges and actions:

• It's All About the Loot! (25 G): Earn the Bronze "Loot Courtesan" medal by completing 10 Horde challenges. These challenges vary per Horde mode wave and can range from headshots to specific weapon kills. Playing on Casual mode with friends makes this easier.
• All for One, One for All (10 G): Earn the Bronze "Force Multiplier" medal by reaching a 10x multiplier ten times in Arcade mode. This multiplier bar appears in the top left corner when achieving a certain amount of points in a row.
• First Among Equals (25 G): Earn the Silver "Number 1" medal by gaining the highest points in a Campaign Arcade session 60 times. This can be boosted with a second controller.
• Award Winning Tactics (25 G): Earn at least one Onyx medal. Medals are mini-achievements for repeated actions, with Onyx being the highest rank (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Onyx). Completing the campaign on Insane is a fast way to earn an Onyx medal.
• Seriously 3.0 (100 G): Reach level 100 and earn every Onyx medal. This requires significant time and effort, involving maxing out all medals through various game modes (Versus, Arcade, Horde, Beast) and potentially grinding with AI bots or playing against other players.
• Respect for the Dead (5 G): During Act 4 Chapter 1, avoid shooting or touching ash people to unlock this achievement.

DLC Achievements (Horde Command Pack):

• The Host with the Most (25 G): Host a private Horde Match with 5 players on any Horde Command Pack map (Azura, Rustlung, Blood Drive). Complete at least one wave.
• Places to See, People to Destroy (25 G): Host a private Beast Match with 5 players on any Horde Command Pack map. Complete at least one wave.
• It's Hammer Time! (50 G): Achieve Level 4 in Horde Command Center fortifications. This requires upgrading Turrets to level 8 to unlock the command center, then playing Horde to upgrade the command center itself.
• What Does This Button Do? (50 G): Get 500 Silverback rocket kills in Horde mode. Unlock the Silverback by upgrading barriers to level 7, then upgrade the Silverback to level 3 to enable rockets. Lower difficulties require less money for fortification upgrades.
• Kill Locust (Like a Boss) (100 G): Defeat a Boss Wave as 5 Onyx Guards on Hardcore difficulty. Playing from Wave 1 to 10 with mutators like Super Reload is recommended. All 5 players must use the Onyx Guard character.

DLC Achievements (RAAM's Shadow):

• Welcome to Zeta (25 G): Complete 'RAAM's Shadow' in Standard Campaign on any difficulty.
• Some Friendly Competition (25 G): Complete 'RAAM's Shadow' in Arcade mode on any difficulty.
• Help from my Friends (25 G): Complete 'RAAM's Shadow' in 4-player co-op in either Arcade or Standard Mode.
