Guide to defeating Tickers, Savage Locusts, Savage Boomers, and Mortar Crews in Gears of War 3. Learn strategies for navigating lower decks, catwalks, and open areas to survive Chapter 1.
Walkthrough
- 1Continue down the path and up the ladder into a fight with Savage Locusts and a Savage Boomer. Deal with the turrets by going up to the razor wire.
- 2Down the walkway, the path breaks away. Choose to go to the lower deck (approx. 3 enemies, one on a turret) or the catwalk (similar enemy count, allows sneaking behind the turret). Baird and Carmine usually handle the turret locust by the time you reach it.
- 3Go through the door and down the bridge. A wave of Tickers will appear; fight them off.
- 4Go up the broken upper deck bridge ramp into a fight with a Mortar crew. Use the open containers on the left for cover during reloads. Rush between them and take out the mortar crew quickly once you reach the end, as there is no cover.
- 5Grab a mortar and use it to take out the lone Gas Barge that appears. A full distance shot should work.
- 6Go back down below and watch out for Leviathan tentacles. Use your pistol or assault rifle to handle the polyps they drop with short bursts.
- 7Continue onwards into more Savage Locusts. Go out the door on your right and climb the ladder to the upper deck.
- 8On the upper area, deal with a turret enemy and a Locust with a One Shot (take this out first as it can kill you instantly).
- 9Interact with the ticker crate near the end to spawn more Savage enemies behind you, then FINALLY end Act 1.
Tips
- Tickers are small creatures with explosives on their backs that blow up when they get close. Avoid getting downed near them, as their explosion is lethal on any difficulty.
- The One Shot weapon can kill you instantly, even on casual difficulty, so prioritize eliminating the Locust wielding it.
- When facing the Mortar crew, use the open containers for cover and rush between them during reload breaks. Take out the mortar crew quickly at the end as there is no cover.
- When dealing with Leviathan tentacles, use short bursts from your pistol or assault rifle to handle the polyps.
