Learn how to switch between Franklin, Michael, and Trevor in Grand Theft Auto VI using the Character Wheel and understand the Main Screen HUD.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Hold Down on the D-Pad to bring up the Character Wheel, which appears at the lower right corner of the screen (HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap)).
  2. 2
Use the Right Analog Stick to select your desired character.
  3. 3
You will zoom out into the sky and then zoom in on the selected character, who may be in the middle of an activity.
Tips
  • Each character has a color designation: Franklin (green), Michael (blue), and Trevor (orange), indicating available missions and activities.
  • A number on the Character Wheel shows how many open missions are available for that character.
  • You cannot switch characters when you have a Wanted Rating.
  • Each character has a different sleep rate: Franklin (eight hours), Michael (six hours), and Trevor (twelve hours).
  • Each character has a personal car found at his Safehouse: Franklin has the Buffalo, Michael has the Tailgater, and Trevor has the Bodhi. You can get another one from the Safehouse if it is wrecked or lost.
  • It is highly recommended to mod (a community-made modification that changes the game) your car as soon as possible to improve speed and handling for missions.

The Main Screen

Your Main Screen is where all the action in Grand Theft Auto VI takes place. In the center is your selected character. Use the Left Analog Stick to move him and the Right Analog Stick to rotate and manipulate the camera when he is standing still.

In the lower left corner of the Main Screen is the Radar (minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen)), used to find your current position, objectives, mission strands, Safehouses, and other areas.

Below the Radar is a line representing:

  • Health: The green portion. When gone, you will be Wasted. It regenerates up to 50% when standing still and under 50%. Strength Skill can improve damage sustain.
  • Armor: The blue portion. When gone, you start losing Health when taking damage.
  • Special Ability: The yellow portion, representing how much of a character's unique talent can be used. Special actions fill this line.

In the upper right corner of the Main Screen, you can find the amount of money you have and your Wanted Rating (if any), though this info often requires pressing D-Pad Down or returning from a paused game to appear.

Special prompts may appear in the upper left or bottom of the Main Screen. Your Cell Phone will appear in the lower right part of the screen when opened.
