Learn how to find and use Electromagnetic Power Hotspots in No Man's Sky to power your bases. Includes crafting materials and hotspot class tiers.
The Electromagnetic Generator is the most efficient power source in No Man's Sky. Unlike other power sources, it requires specific locations: Electromagnetic Power Hotspots. This guide will walk you through finding and utilizing these hotspots.
Walkthrough
- 1Acquire the Survey Device Upgrade: Purchase the Survey Device upgrade from the Multi-Tool upgrade merchant on the Space Anomaly using Salvaged Data. Install it into your Multi-Tool.
- 2Activate Power Survey Mode: When using the Analysis Visor, switch to Power Survey Mode.
- 3Locate a Hotspot: If you don't immediately see a Hotspot Proximity, move a few hundred meters and scan again. Repeat until you find a signal.
- 4Craft Electromagnetic Generators: You will need Metal Plating, Magnetised Ferrite (60), and Chromatic Metal (75) to craft each generator.
- 5Understand Hotspot Tiers: Hotspots are classified into tiers C, B, A, and S, similar to Starships and Multi-Tools. Higher tiers offer greater power generation (kPs). A class C hotspot has a minimum output of 150 kPs, significantly more than Biofuel Reactors or Solar Panels.
- 6Placement Matters: While you can build multiple generators around a hotspot, power generation diminishes the further you place them from the center. However, even distant generators can produce substantial power.
- 7Power Generation: Electromagnetic Generators do not require fuel and start generating power immediately upon setup. Use Electrical Wiring to connect them to your base components.
- 8Check Site Potential: Use the Analysis Visor to check the class tier and get an estimate of the Local Field Strength and Max Field Strength. To find the exact potential, build a generator, check the output, and then deconstruct it if necessary using the “Edit Placed Parts” function for a full material refund.
Tips
- The Survey Device also allows for Mineral and Gas Survey Modes, useful for extractors.
- When you are close to a suitable hotspot, you will see the Hotspot Proximity number and its potential class tier.
- Deconstructing a placed Electromagnetic Generator using the “Edit Placed Parts” function from the build menu will refund all materials, allowing you to reposition it.
