Manage visitors, adventures, and attacks in Pillars of Eternity. Get the Cape of the Cheat from Nyry the Deft Hand.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
As you progress and complete quests, events will occur back at your stronghold.
  2. 2
These events can manifest as a visitor, an adventure, or an attack.

Visitors

Depending on your stronghold's Prestige, some visitors will be welcome, others less so. Typically, they have a problem and ask for your help. Assisting them may cost you money or the services of a companion for a short while. Making a decision rewards you with 200XP and potentially a unique item. If you do not attend to them, visitors will remain in the Great Hall and may increase or reduce your keep stats.

Prestigious Visitors

  • Azzuro: If you assure the safety of his caravans (costing 5000cp or lending him a companion), he will sell rare and unique items. There is a limited time window to buy his wares, and it's possible to miss him while travelling.

  • Berolt: Pay 2000cp for safe passage or have a companion escort him for +1 Prestige. He also provides +3 Prestige and +2 Security.

  • Geyda: Helping this animancer costs 2000cp or the services of Aloth or Edér for several days. You may want to ignore her.

  • Lord Sidroc: Tell him to grow a pair if your Survival skill is 5. He provides +3 Prestige.

  • Odeyna Fyrghest: If you have high reputation with The Dozens, tell them to back off. Otherwise, allow her to stay. She provides +5 Prestige and +5 Security.

Bad Visitors

  • Gafol the Drunkard: Simply get rid of him in any way you please.

  • Lord Byrnwigar: Urge him to treat his tenants better (requires Benevolent 2) for a Prestige point.

  • Nyry the Deft Hand: If you help her escape the law, she will give you the unique Cape of the Cheat. She provides -1 Prestige and -3 Security.

  • Solmar the Shackler: This slaver can be hanged if you have recruited Hiravias.

Employable Visitors

Employ visitors that raise Prestige; ignore those that don't. Money should not be an issue by the time they start showing up.

  • Aedyran Noblewoman: Costs 200cp/day, provides +6 Prestige.

  • Brutish Warrior: Costs 50cp/day, provides +3 Prestige and +2 Security.

  • Dunryd Psion: Costs 100cp/day, provides -2 Prestige and +2 Security.

  • Fellow of St. Waidwen: Costs 90cp/day, provides +1 Prestige and +3 Security.

  • Glanfathan Soul Hunter: Costs 100cp/day, provides +2 Prestige and +3 Security.

  • Vicious War Criminal: Costs 350cp/day, provides -4 Prestige and +3 Security.

Adventures

An adventure unlocks every 8th turn. To complete it, you must assign an idle companion (one not currently in your party) before the time runs out. The assigned companion receives bonus XP.

There are five levels of adventure: Minor, Average, Major, Grand, and Legendary. The only way to determine the level is by the number of turns it takes to complete: 1 (Minor) to 5 (Legendary). The level is determined by adding your Stronghold's Prestige level to 2d50. A result of 25 or less means no adventure, 26-50 is a Minor adventure, and 126 or greater is a Legendary adventure. The roll is made before the adventure appears, so you cannot save-scum for a desired level. However, you can save-scum for a specific adventure of a given level by saving just before turning in a quest that increments the turn number and triggers an adventure.

Adventures and Rewards:

  • Minor: Black Waters, Broken Tombs (Ycg Br Tomb Fragment), Clerical Errors (St. Borragia's Tears), A Court of Spirits (Belt of Chimes), A Forgotten Hollow (Wyrwood Ring), The Ivory Horn (The Nautilus of Or-Grammon), The Night Mirror (Night Mirror Fragment), Sacred Skin (Greenstained Boots), The Sky Breaker (Rod of Wind and Thunder), Witch's Walk (The Witch's Hat).

  • Average: Bound and Buried (Binding Rope), The Mourning Circle (Mourning Gloves), The Page Unturned (The Blind Monk's Venom), Skulls for Mother (Father's Teeth), Still as Stones (Mossy Rock x5), To the Waterline (Iverra's Diving Helmet), The Weaver's Song (Cloak of Comfort), A Wreath of Ashes (Remembrance Ashes).

  • Major: The Celebrant's Dirge (Celebrant's Gloves), A Curse of Cold Clay (Remembrance of Life's Warmth), Ring Finger (Nidhan's Finger), St. Ifen's Knot (Ifen's Cradle), The Unworn Path (Patchwork Boots), What the Well Holds (Swaddling Sheet), A Whistling in the Reeds (Red Reed Wand).

  • Grand: The Crossed Eye (Crossed Patch), Lavender and Lye (Lavender Wreath), Lovers' Light (Lovers' Rings), A Place of Great Silence (The Looking-Inward Chime), They Who Woke the Stars (Constellated Cloak), The Wax Maker (Helwax Mold).

  • Legendary: At the Edge of All Known Things (Amaia's Codex), The Coal Eater (Blighted Coals), The Glass Tree (Glittering Gauntlets), Liminal Species (Ethereal Helm), A Solitary Mark (Marked Amulet).

After completing all named adventures, you will receive random adventures with no special rewards. The rewards are listed in the Accessories reference.

Attacks

Your stronghold will occasionally be attacked by enemies. You can auto-resolve this, which usually results in the deaths of hirelings or destruction of property. Alternatively, you can manually resolve the attack by being present and fighting the enemies. If you allow the clock to run down, the game will auto-resolve the attack for you.

Tips
  • Employ visitors that raise Prestige, as money is generally not an issue when they appear.
  • Save just before turning in a quest that increments the turn number to trigger an adventure, allowing you to save-scum for a specific adventure of a desired level.
  • Auto-resolving stronghold attacks often leads to unfavorable outcomes; manual resolution is recommended to protect your keep.
