Follow our comprehensive guide to navigate the 'Through Death's Gate' quest in Pillars of Eternity, including Stormwall Gorge and Dyrford Village.
Leave Defiance Bay and start making your way east to Stormwall Gorge.
Stormwall Gorge
There is a party of Feral Druids immediately to your east. They're nasty buggers with some fighting you Spiritshifted. They drop Fine quality weapons and armour. The northern section of the map is populated with Lions and rather tougher Elder Lions along with a solitary Delemgan.
South of your starting point is the entrance to Lle a Rhemen which you don't need to worry about for the time being. Continue east along the main path and turn south when it forks. You will find an Orlan standing over a freshly killed deer.
He offers to let you share his meal. Talk to him more and he'll offer to travel to Dyrford with you. In fact, his destination is Twin Elms so he'll be with you for a while at least.

Speak to him about his Spiritshift to unlock his companion quest, True to Form.
The southern section of the map is currently flooded, so return to the main path and continue east to Dyrford Village.
Dyrford Village
There is a person named Medreth just by the river whom you can talk to. However, make a note of him and ignore him for the time being. Go into the Temple of Berath immediately to the north and speak to Harbinger Beodmar.
He initially mistakes you for "ruffians". Ask what happened to learn that Leaden Key agents forced the location of Clîaban Rilag out of him. Ask him to tell you where the ruins are and he's reluctant to tell you. However, you have a number of options to persuade him (or "persuade" if you prefer).
Head across the bridge into the village proper. Speak to the House Harond Guard on the far side who is looking for an elven noblewoman.
He directs you to speak to Lord Harond in the inn, initiating the Blood Legacy quest.
Go into Dyrford Mill to uncover the location. There is a hidden stash in the grain hopper. Just south of the mill is a man named Rumbald standing outside his house and cursing the gods.
Ask him what the matter is to learn that most of his pigs have been stolen by an Ogre that took up residence nearby. Agree to look into matters to initiate A Farmer's Plight.
Continue to the Dracogen Inn in the centre of the village. If you let him go in the Catacomb Sewers, you will find Eorn in the taproom.
Speak to him for a modest reputation boost.
If you want background information about the history of the village, speak to Sid, the bard standing by the fire. Be warned: she's almost as verbose as Durance. Lord Harond is by the stairs.
Speak to him to learn that his daughter, Aelys, is missing. They stopped off in Dyrford on their way to Eina's Rest when Aelys fell ill. She vanished after retiring for the night. Speak to Dengler at the bar and ask him about Lord Harond's daughter.
You'll need to make a couple of attribute / Disposition checks or bribe him to get him to open up. He'll tell you that the only person in the village she's spoken to is Trygil.
Go upstairs to the first floor. Open the door nearest the stairs to find a nervous young Orlan woman named Nyfre.
Ask what she's talking about to learn that she is on the run from the Doemenels. She pays you 125cp to look for "suspicious individuals". Agree to keep an eye out to initiate Cat and Mouse. There's looting to be done in the other rooms. The bottom room contains two locked (level 6) chests while the top room has a hidden stash containing the Guildmaster's Staff.
As it happens, there is at least one "suspicious individual" in the village. Go back across the bridge and speak to Medreth who is hunting Nyfre.
Tell him you've found her to update the quest. Now force attack Medreth and kill him and his associates. They drop Fine quality loot and 1000cp (which would have been your reward for turning in Nyfre). Return to Nyfre and tell her that the man hunting her is dead.
She rewards you with the unique Night-Runner leather armour.
Winfrith's Arms and Armor is to the south of the inn. If you ask him about Aelys, he will suggest that you talk to Hendyna. Ask to browse his wares because he has some too notch gear, including the Tall Grass, a pike that knocks enemies prone on critical hits.
Continue round the building and you will meet a potential companion, Grieving Mother.
After watching her for a while, study her and then focus on her.
Afterwards, you will see her as she really is. Ask her to travel with you. You will need her shortly and you will likely have to make way for her - Aloth has a similar party role and you've already completed his companion quest.
