Alright, we're pushing forward in Quake IV, and this next section is all about getting to the higher floors. It’s not too complicated, but there are a few things you’ll want to grab and a couple of fights to get through. Stick with me, and we'll make it to the top in no time.

    You'll start by needing to activate another bridge to get across. Once that's done, head through the next door. Immediately to your left, you'll find two SMALL HEALTH PACKS. Grab those, then move forward.

    Strauss will chime in, mentioning data pumps and warning you about heavy resistance. He's not kidding! Stick to the left side of this room. You'll find a crate holding six ARMOR SHARDS. Keep going, and you'll find two boxes of ROCKETS, three SLUGS, a crate with SHELLS and a LARGE HEALTH PACK, plus a HEALTH STATION. Stock up on whatever you need before you interact with the big "Call Lift" button.

    Objective Complete: Activate Elevator System.

    Before the lift even shows up, you're going to be ambushed by three Stream Protectors. They won't all come at once, thankfully. Sledge will help you out here. Your Hyperblaster, Nailgun, or Rocket Launcher should make short work of them, but use whatever feels best.

    After that initial wave, a teleporter will activate on one side of the room, spitting out Tactical Transfers. It's a good idea to head over there and destroy the teleporter itself to stop the endless stream of enemies. You'll even find a LARGE HEALTH PACK as a reward for your efforts.

    Once things quiet down, rejoin Sledge on the elevator to wrap up this level. Just a heads-up, taking out those Tactical Transfers is technically optional, but I always like to clear out as much as I can.

    The elevator will eventually stop at floor 1986. A bit of a nod to the game's lore, perhaps? As expected, there's another problem to solve before we can move on.

    Objective: Realign the Data Nodes. Some of these data nodes are out of alignment and may impede progress.
Tips
  • Don't forget to grab all the ammo and health scattered around the initial room. It's easy to rush through, but you'll want to be fully stocked before the fight.
  • Destroying the teleporter that spawns the Tactical Transfers is highly recommended, even if it's optional. It makes the final part of the level much easier.
  • Make sure you're healed up at the HEALTH STATION before calling the lift. The fight that follows can be pretty intense.
