Complete walkthrough for The Valley's Legacy in Rue Valley. Learn how to define your character, navigate the motel, and progress through early Intentions and loops.
Walkthrough
- 1When starting a new game, allocate 9 points to personality traits. These traits affect dialogue options and enable 'Checks' for tasks like persuasion. Some traits may block dialogue, potentially causing you to fail 'Intentions'.
- 2Hold the button on the bottom-right to 'wake up' and speak with Dr. Finck. Dialogue choices here don't matter initially.
- 3Exit and attempt to speak with the woman kicking the vending machine; you'll be unable to due to 'Total Lack of Motivation'. Move left and enter the motel reception.
- 4Inside, speak to the receptionist, Robin. If you have at least one point in 'Extraverted', you will pass the Social Check. Dialogue choices with Robin don't matter for now; you'll receive your room key card.
- 5Go upstairs to your room. Interact with the suitcase; your character may put it away, allowing them to sit on the bed or chair. Time will pass, and you'll receive a phone call. Accepting or rejecting the call and any dialogue choices are inconsequential.
- 6More time will pass, leading to reviewing your 'memories'. Click each icon.
- 7You will then experience a dream sequence. Pay attention to its details for character insight.
- 8After the dream, an icon will appear. You'll have the option to 'Hold to Recall', but this is not yet possible.
- 9Exit your hotel room and witness someone in a truck hit a transformer.
- 10Achievement: Tap Out! Go to your room's bathroom and drink from the tap to unlock this achievement.
- 11Go downstairs and interact with the vending machine. Press the 'reddish button' to get a bottle of water and drink it to lose the 'Thirsty' status.
- 12The sky will turn red, and explosions will occur. You will wake up back in Dr. Finck's office, where he gives you a 'Purple Pill'.
- 13Repeat the process: get your key card, check into your room, attempt to put away the suitcase (your character will resist). You can take the purple pill or not; it doesn't affect progression. Sit on the chair to pass time until you receive the same phone call.
- 14Pass time until you review your memories again. You will receive your first 'Intention'.
- 15'Hold to Commit' to the 'Memory or Fantasy?' Intention, but you'll be unable to due to a lack of 'Willpower'. Take the pill to sleep, losing the 'Anxious Apprehension' status and gaining 'Inspiration' (equivalent to Willpower).
- 16Commit to the 'Memory or Fantasy?' Intention and go outside. The Intention will update.
- 17Go downstairs and investigate the transformer hit by the car. Select all dialogue options to complete the Intention. The sky will turn red, signaling the end of the loop.
- 18After talking to Dr. Finck, open the memories screen, select the Intention, and 'Hold to Wrap Up' to gain 1 Inspiration.
- 19Outside Dr. Finck's office, you'll decide to go home, unlocking an Intention to leave.
- 20Commit to the 'Go Home' Intention and interact with your car. You will fail to leave and end up back in Dr. Finck's office. A dialogue option tied to this intention will appear.
- 21As you try to leave again, you'll lose control of the car, triggering a Decisional Check. If you have '+1 Calculated', you'll regain control; otherwise, you lose it. You gain 2 Inspiration regardless. The intention fails, unlocking the achievement 'The Escape Failed Successfully'.
- 22Select the Intention again and 'Hold to Give up'.
Free Roaming:
- Talk to the woman hitting the vending machine. Any dialogue options will grant the 'Fix Vending Machine' Intention.
- Commit to the Vending Machine Intention via your memories screen.
- Speak to the woman again and select 'Maybe I can help?'. Attempt and fail to fix the vending machine, then 'give up'.
- Go to the motel reception and speak to Robin. Select the vending machine-related dialogue option, and she will explain how to fix it.
- If the clock is 8:07 or earlier, give Riley a coffee to complete the Intention and earn 3 Inspiration. You'll learn her name is Riley and gain memories of Robin, Ben Fleming (Robin's father), and Coral Destiny. Update the Rocket Launch memory by asking about watching it.
- Wrap up the vending machine Intention in your memories. To gain a new memory, go to the second floor and interact with the door left of yours to gain the 'The Stocky Man' Memory.
- Go to reception and speak to Robin about the time loop and Ben Fleming.
- The 'Stocky Man' (Jason Burns) will enter reception at 8:12. Listen to his conversation with Robin. Afterwards, speaking to Robin reveals his name and backstory.
Driving South - Max Gas:
- Drive south to Max Gas. To the left of the store, interact with the camera to unlock the 'Reality Show' Intention.
- Enter Max Gas. Depending on the time, Riley may also be present. Listening to Max and Riley talk updates/creates memories: 'Careless Driver', 'Max Gas Lady', 'Where's Walter?'.
- Talking to Max alone updates her memory to 'Maxine Kay'. Asking about Jason Burns updates Maxine's and Jason Burns' memories.
- Interact with the Kitty Poster to gain 1 Inspiration.
- Select dialogue options related to the Time Loop and Reality TV to advance those Intentions.
- Use your phone to ask about Walter Kay, then pass time to restart the loop. You may see a dream icon requiring 5 Willpower/Inspiration to recall.
Next Loop:
- Back in Dr. Finck's office, ask about Coral Destiny and select options related to the Reality Show Intention.
- Outside, give Riley a coffee again. Ask her about Coral Destiny and the Reality Show Intention. Learn she worked there and update her memory.
