The Southern Tunnels

Navigate the treacherous Southern Tunnels in Shadows of Doubt. Learn enemy placements, key item locations, and strategies to survive this challenging area.

Alright, so you've found yourself in the Southern Tunnels, and let me tell you, it's a bit of a baptism by fire. As soon as you step foot in here, you're thrown right into the thick of it.

Your first room is no joke – you're immediately facing a Beholder and an Elder Orb. Don't get too caught up in the fight just yet. Once they're dealt with, make sure to search the Elder Orb's remains. You'll find a really useful Amulet of Spell Warding, the Blade of the Equalizer, and an Eyestalk of an Elder Orb. That Eyestalk is actually important for a quest later on in Ust Natha, so don't miss it!

After that, head up the tunnel. It'll open up into a new area where you'll run into a scrap already in progress: five Drow are battling a Beholder. Whoever comes out on top of that fight is going to turn their attention to you, so be ready. Once the dust settles and the area is clear, keep an eye out for a niche in the cave wall. Inside, you'll find the Sling of Arvoreen +4.

Now, here's a bit of a tactical move: have the character who's equipped with the Shield of Balduran make their way to the very center of these tunnels. You'll find two Beholders and three Gauths hanging out there. Once you've scouted that, continue heading southwest. You're going to stumble upon another big fight: three Mind Flayers are going at it with three Gauths.
