Learn how to resurrect Sims in The Sims 3, interact with ghosts, and understand the game's relationship system, including short-term context and long-term meters.

Sometimes, the Grim Reaper may feel nice and resurrect Sims promptly. Another method is to have a death blossom at hand. You can grow these from seeds found near the graveyard, or harvest one from the graveyard to double your yield for an infinite supply. When the Reaper sees the blossom, he will take it rather than your life. Finally, though this is for warding off old age, eating lots of life fruits will bring back 2 days of life, which can stack up if you want to live forever.

Ghosts

At night, the ghosts of dead Sims may haunt the area around their gravestone, generally appearing after 11 PM. Their color is determined by their method of death. In The Sims 3, ghosts are tame and friendly, not causing trouble or trying to scare your Sims. They might wake you up if they are on your lot. Some Sims will be glad to see a ghost, while others will get the Scared moodlet based on their traits. To see a ghost, you need a gravestone marker on a lot; you can borrow one from the graveyard or kill a Sim. Ghosts can be talked to like normal Sims, and you can develop relationships, but not romantic ones.

Playing as Ghosts

You can restore a ghost at the Science Facility to play as them. Ghosts can do everything a normal Sim can, including eating, sleeping, talking, and having fun. If a normal Sim and a Ghost Sim try to have a baby, there's a 50/50 chance the child will be a ghost. If both parents are ghosts, the child will obviously be a ghost. Ghosts are essentially resurrected Sims with a missing body. If you manage to get Ambrosia to a ghost's mouth, you might restore them back to life.

Relationship Basics

The relationship system in The Sims 3 uses a single meter instead of separate short-term and long-term numbers. The short-term context sets the tone of conversations, influencing relationship gains. Socials now only affect the long-term relationship meter. Friends are important for job careers, promotions, fulfilling wishes, and boosting your Sim's mood with nice moodlets.

Short Term Context

The short-term context dictates how one Sim perceives another during a conversation. It changes with each conversation and determines how much a relationship decays from its Long Term Relationship and how much it can return to good terms with a negative relationship.
