A Cold Welcome: Siberian Wilderness

Your friend's guide to Rise of the Tomb Raider's Siberian Wilderness. Learn how to find shelter, gather resources, and use your first Base Camp effectively.

Alright, so you've just started up in the Siberian Wilderness in Rise of the Tomb Raider. Lara's back in action, and the first thing you'll want to do is just follow the path through the snow. It's pretty straightforward, leading you to an old camp where you'll get your first real objective: gather stuff to make a fire and build some shelter.

Objective: Gather resources to build a fire and shelter

When you get to the camp, whip out Lara's Survival Instinct. It'll point out three things nearby: a couple of small trees and a dead deer. Go interact with all of them – it'll update your quest log. Once that's done, head back to the camp. There's a cutscene that plays, and then you'll be at your very first Base Camp. This is a big deal! Here, you can upgrade gear, swap weapons, craft ammo, change outfits, and spend those hard-earned skill points. Eventually, you'll be able to fast travel between these, but for now, focus on the bow.

In the Base Camp menu, find your bow and buy the 'Reinforced Limbs' upgrade. After that, invest a skill point. I'd personally go for 'Thick-Skinned' in the Brawler tree or 'Avid Learner' in the Survivor tree, but honestly, pick whatever you like best. Once you're done tinkering, exit the Base Camp menu to keep moving forward.

Achievement: Tougher Than She Looks

This one's for surviving your first night in the Siberian wilderness. You'll get it just by progressing through this initial section.
