Arena Battles

Learn how to participate in Solo and Team Arena Battles in Star Ocean: The Last Hope, including item sets, rewards, and strategies for the Lord of Dragons.

Solo Battles

1. Select Solo mode and designate a character from the Colosseum's Solo rankings board.
2. You start at the bottom of the rankings with 100 competitors above you.
3. You can select an opponent ranked below you or up to three ranks above you.
4. Fighting opponents below your rank or the same opponent repeatedly yields only 2 Fight Coins.
5. You can use symbols and special arts, but no items from your inventory; choose from provided item sets.
6. Item Sets available: Offensive (Compact Poison Bomb x1, EM Bomb x2, Compact Stun Bomb x1, Mixed Syrup x1), Curative (Blueberries x1, Bigberries x1, Physical Stimulant x1, Blackberries x1), Strategic (Hyper Potion x1, Element Breaker x1, Riot Potion x1, Gambleberries x2).
7. Winning battles earns EXP and Fol.
8. Bonuses from your Bonus Board are applied to Arena battles.
9. You can add tiles to the Bonus Board through actions in Arena battles.
10. Fight Coins are awarded after each battle, with rewards increasing as you rank up.
11. Losing an Arena battle revives you with 1 HP and returns you to the reception desk, awarding 1 Fight Coin. Heal before continuing.
12. Opponent difficulty increases with rank. Early attempts in the Colosseum may allow you to clear the first half of the rankings.
13. To achieve the Colosseum Challenger and Colosseum Champion Trophies/Achievements, it is recommended to wait until after finishing the game and exploring the Cave of Seven Stars for levels, skills, and post-game gear.
14. After using one character, you can switch to another; they will also start at the bottom of the rankings.
15. You can face any of your teammates in the arena as they are also ranked.
16. Edge is a recommended character for Solo competition due to his melee fighting, self-healing symbology, and skills like Berserk and Convert.
17. Battles become progressively harder, with some exceptionally difficult fights like the Great Solar Phoenix's Plasma Cyclone.
18. To challenge the Champion, ensure the number one spot is no longer grayed-out by fighting high-ranked opponents if you skipped many ranks.
19. Lord of Dragons Battle:
• Boss: Lord of Dragons (Demon race)
• Resist: Water, Weak: Fire
• HP: 2,600,000, EXP: 70,547, Fol: 2,892
• Attacks include flying down from a height, icy breath, Sphere of Might, and Reaping Spark.
• Has a 15% chance to nullify HP damage.
• Can be stunned, knocked down, and juggled by melee fighters.
• Can be Blindside'd, but may counter; use BEAT: S for double Blindsides or avoid solid red targeting icons.
• Ranged attackers face less frequent crashing attacks; the large arena allows for kiting and sniping.
20. Victory against the Lord of Dragons grants the top Solo rank and the Solo Champion Medal (a neck accessory boosting ATK and DEF with four special factors).
21. A statue in Tatroi will be replaced with a statue of the character who defeated the Solo Champion.

Team Battles

1. Select the Team option when speaking to the Colosseum receptionist.
2. You will face other teams in arena battles, starting at the bottom of the rankings with 100 teams above you.
3. You can challenge teams up to three ranks ahead of you.
4. Rules and procedures are the same as Solo battles.
5. You can use any skills, but only items from prescribed Colosseum item sets.
6. Choose your item set before beginning a battle.
7. Item Sets available: Offensive (Compact Poison Bomb x12, Deluxe Freezing Bomb x1, Compact Stun Bomb x3, Mixed Syrup x4), Curative (Bigberries x8, Physical Stimulant x4, Blackberries x8, Fresh Sage x3), Strategic (Hyper Potion x4, Element Breaker x8, Riot Potion x6).

• EXP and Fol for winning battles.
• Fight Coins after each battle, increasing with rank.
• Solo Champion Medal (neck accessory: boosts ATK and DEF, four special factors) for defeating the Lord of Dragons.
• A statue in Tatroi replaced with the character who defeated the Solo Champion.
• 1 Fight Coin for losing a battle.
