Guide to the post-game content in Star Ocean: The Last Hope, including the Undying Dragon boss fight and locations of powerful Skill Manuals and items.

Load the Save File you used just before the final battles of the game. You will pick up your game in the Audience Chamber, but with a game-clear saved data file, the rooms off the hallway to the north are now open. Prepare your party and enter the west room where you will face an ancient foe.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Boss: Undying Dragon
  • Race: Demon
  • Resist: Fire
  • Weak: Water
  • HP: 1,896,572
  • EXP: 118,482
  • Fol: 31,189
  • Items: Darkness Ring

Phases:

  1. The Undying Dragon can breathe fire and use a tail sweep.
  2. It will briefly take flight and crash down on the party for significant damage.
  3. Late in the fight, it uses the _Sphere of Might_ Special Art.

Strategy:

  • Have one or two melee fighters try to keep the dragon off balance and in the air.
  • Ranged attackers and symbologists should strike from a distance to minimize damage from its dive bomb attack.
  • The dragon can be stunned or knocked down, making it susceptible to juggling.
  • If the dragon is in the air when it enters Rush Mode, continue juggling until its Rush Gauge empties.
  • If not juggling, retreat when it enters Rush Mode and renew attacks after it ends.
  • The Undying Dragon is less of a threat after defeating the Apostle of Creation and Satanail.

In addition to a healthy EXP award, the Undying Dragon drops the Darkness Ring. Now you can open those Treasure Chests you skipped because they were sealed by a Light barrier. The Darkness Ring holds three charges but it is empty when you obtain it. Have Lymle use the _Charge_ Command Skill to fill the Ring with charges.

  • Start by leaving the Audience Chamber via the south door and make your way back through Area 7 and Area 4 to reach Area 6. The center room on the north perimeter is sealed by a Light barrier. Use the Darkness Ring to dispel the barrier across the entrance and open the Treasure Chest inside to obtain Meteorite x1.
  • Backtrack through the Palace of Creation to Area 1 and leave by the south exit to reach the Halls of Termination. There is a Light-sealed Treasure Chest at the dead end south of where you left Crowe's Funereal Bouquet. Inside you'll find the Skill Manual "Plasma Cyclone" x1, to teach Myuria the strongest Thunder symbol.
  • Make your way to the transporter near the Calnus, either by hoofing it through Nox Obscurus or by returning to the Audience Chamber in the Palace of Creation and using the Transfer Symbol there. From the transporter in the Ravine of Extinction, you can travel to other planets to retrieve treasures.
  • If you are playing the Xbox 360 version, head first to Aeos. Make the long trek from the Transfer Symbol to the Miga Insect Warren. Go all the way down to the southeastern section of level B4. A Light-sealed Treasure Chest on the east side contains a Skill Manual "Dragon Roar" x1 to teach a new Special Art to Arumat. Other players will have to wait until they find another Disintegration Ring to open that chest.
  • Use a Transfer Symbol to go to Alanaire Citadel on Planet Lemuris. You can reach it from either Triom or Woodley because both entrances to the Alanaire Citadel are open now. Head up to the Boss chamber on the third floor and exit north to the Ramparts. Use the Darkness Ring on the Treasure Chest there which holds Skill Manual "Trinity Blaze" x1. You can use it to teach Lymle and Cerberus a new Special Art.
  • Use a Transfer Symbol at either Triom or Woodley to transport to En II - Elevator Room. Take the elevator down to the Old Road to the Sanctuary. There is a Treasure Chest in the north central part of the Old Road that is sealed with a Light barrier. Use the Darkness Ring to open the chest and retrieve the Skill Manual "Godslayer" x1. It is a new Special Art for Bacchus.
  • Have a Transfer Symbol take you to Tropp on Planet Roak next. Take the Cave path to Purgatorium and go down to level B4 where you fought Tamiel. The Darkness Ring will remove the barrier on the Treasure Chest in the Boss chamber. Inside the Chest, Xbox 360 players will find the Skill Manual "Savage Sparrows" x1, a beastly Special Art for Reimi. Other players will have to settle for the Skill Manual "Sunflare" x1 to teach Sarah the strongest Light symbol.
  • Leave the Purgatorium and use the Tropp Transfer Symbol to transport to Tatroi. In the northwest corner of the city, use the tunnel to enter the Astral Caves. Pass through this part of level B2 and take the stairs down to level B3. There is a Treasure Chest hidden under the cobwebs in the far southeast part of the level. Dispel the barrier with the Darkness Ring and open the chest. Inside you will find Burning Claws x1 for Meracle. Then go back the way you came and return to Tatroi.

There is little point to obtaining these new skills and equipment so late in the game unless you can do something with them. You can return to Nox Obscurus and face the final battles again with some new tricks. Or you could brave the game's first Post-Game optional dungeon. If you are the adventurous type, continue to The Cave of the Seven Stars.
