StarCraft II Part 18 walkthrough: Defend against waves, protect the Protoss Archive, and earn Protoss Research in In Utter Darkness.
- 1Use Zeratul with an observer to safely kill ultralisks from a distance.
- 2Activate the southeast tentacle and move north.
- 3Move your stalker force north to take out the overseer, then retreat to avoid acid crawlers.
- 4Send Zeratul to clear remaining enemies.
- 5Near the next overseer, have Zeratul clear zerglings and acid crawlers, then stun and kill the Spine crawler before retreating.
- 6Have stalkers re-engage to destroy zerglings, acid crawlers, and the overseer.
- 7Clear the nearby hatchery to the west using the same method: Zeratul clears, stuns and kills the spike crawler, then retreats while stalkers finish the overseer.
- 8Clear the area and claim the second (northeast) tentacle.
- 9Position 10 stalkers west at the top of the ramp leading into the area.
- 10Send Zeratul back to your base, then head north with another 10 stalkers.
- 11Move your troops to the second obelisk but do not activate it.
- 12Continue north with Zeratul clearing all enemies until an overseer is spotted.
- 13If overseers appear, send stalkers to kill them, fall back, and send Zeratul back in.
- 14Reach the ramp east of the northern base and send all troops, including the 10 stalkers from the previous ramp, to clear it.
- 15Clear the northern tentacle and claim it.
- 16After clearing stationary troops, place a pylon near the second obelisk.
- 17Send Zeratul to the fourth and final tentacle at your second base to complete the mission.

This mission focuses entirely on defense. Build numerous cannons near the three main entrances and produce several zealots and stalkers.
The first wave comes from the northeast, the second from the northwest, and the third from the southeast. The final wave includes an ultralisk. All waves send mutalisks that should be shot down with phoenixes. After one wave from each of the three entrances, hybrids will attack from the north.
The second full wave is fierce, starting from the northwest, then southeast, and finally the north. These waves contain more zerglings but are otherwise moderate. The third wave includes more hybrids. A squad of 5 Void Rays will arrive to assist. Begin producing void rays exclusively and continuously.
The third full wave begins with an attack from the northwest including a single hybrid. The second wave comes from the northeast, the third from the southeast, and a fourth attempts to sneak in from the northeast halfway through. Upgrade your air weapons and armors; focus solely on producing air units from this point forward. Conserve all resources for training starships.
Between the third and fourth Major Waves, Nydus Worms will emerge near the archive and will be quickly dealt with by Void Rays. Afterwards, five carriers led by Zelendis will arrive. Have one stargate warp in Void Rays and the second warp in carriers. Remember to build interceptors for each new carrier.
The fourth major wave starts with attacks from the northwest, then the northeast, followed by a feint to the northeast and a real attack to the southeast. Your air fleet should now be capable of sustained combat.
The 5th and 6th waves arrive nearly back-to-back. After the 6th wave, there is a short break until the 25-minute timer is up. If successful, you should have nearly 1000 kills. Continue until 1500 kills are reached.
After the break and the 25-minute mark, a large force will build to the northeast. Do not engage; backtrack into your base and wait for Nydus Worms to emerge in your rear sections. Clear them out, then head northeast. Send any surviving ground troops to your rear base and rely solely on your air fleet. Ground troops in the back will provide defense and early warning for future worms.
Surviving another 2-3 waves grants a Purifier. Add it to your fleet and retreat to your rear base. Slaughter as many enemies as possible before falling back for successful mission completion. Reaching 1500 kills triggers a small cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically), after which the true flood begins, making further kills a matter of bragging rights.
