The Egyptians were among the first cultures in Age of Empires IV to achieve the necessary population and wealth to construct standing armies composed of professional soldiers. Before the Hyksos introduced the horse and chariot, the Egyptian military relied on other means. However, the Egyptians quickly adopted the horse and chariot after their introduction.

The dominance of the Near East by New Kingdom Egypt, which lasted from 1600 to 1200 B.C., was largely attributed to the large and powerful chariot armies deployed in battles during that era. These chariots were considered the elite of the army and each carried a driver and a composite bow archer.
