Master Destiny's Winters Run mission with our expert guide. Learn strategies for defeating Askor, the Archon Priest, and navigating the Vex and Fallen battles.
Alright, Guardian! We're heading into Winters Run. This mission throws you right into the thick of it with the Vex and Fallen already duking it out. Your main goal here is to push through the Ember Caves and then focus on the Vex forces in the Winters Lair.
Walkthrough
- 1You'll start by zooming through the Ember Caves. Keep an eye out for the Vex; they're currently fighting the Fallen. Your top priority is the Hydra – seriously, this thing is the most dangerous enemy you'll face here. Once you've cleared out the area, you'll move into The Cinders.
- 2In The Cinders, it's more of the same with Vex and Fallen clashing. Start by thinning their numbers from a distance with your favorite ranged weapon, then get up close and personal. Head down to the left side of the area. You'll need to deploy your Ghost to start breaking open a hatch. This takes a bit, so be ready for a fight.
- 3The Vex will attack while your Ghost is working. The first wave consists of Goblins and Minotaurs, with one of them being a Major. Stay sharp!
- 4The second wave brings Goblins and Major Hobgoblins. These Hobgoblins can snipe you from afar, so be careful and use cover.
- 5Finally, you'll face Harpies and two Major Hydras. This is a good time to back up the path you came from to get a better angle on those Hydras. They're tough, so using the environment to your advantage is key.
- 6After dealing with the initial threats in The Cinders, you'll find some Pikes. Hop on one! These are great for riding through the Ash Coves and using their built-in weapons to take down the Vex. This will make dealing with the Major Hydras at the end of this section much easier.
- 7As you push forward, you'll eventually reach the area where you'll face Askor, The Archon Priest. He emerges from a massive ship. Askor can teleport, so always be aware of your surroundings. You don't want him blasting you point-blank!
- 8The main objective here is to eliminate the Vex and Fallen fighting each other, and then deal with Askor. This fight requires your fireteam to spread out and focus on the waves of additional enemies that keep spawning.
- 9Once you've cleared out the adds, start unleashing your heaviest firepower on Askor. Try to draw his attention but make sure he can never get a clean shot off at you.
- 10The toughest part of the Askor fight is when the Servitors and Stealth Vandals show up. These enemies can take you down quickly and unexpectedly, so keep an eye on them. Askor himself is considered one of the easier bosses, but you really need to be mindful of these additional enemies coming from the gates.
- 11When attacking Askor, aim for his head – that's where you'll do the most damage. Void weapons, especially a powerful Fusion Rifle, seem to be the most effective.
- 12Important: If other Guardians fall and you can't reach them safely, don't risk it. Stay hidden and let them revive so you can all continue the battle together.
Tips
- Use the Pikes in the Ash Coves to make taking down the Major Hydras much easier.
- Focus fire on Askor's head for maximum damage.
- Void weapons are highly effective against Askor.
- Be aware of the Servitors and Stealth Vandals, as they can be deadly.
- If a teammate goes down, prioritize your own survival and let them respawn if you can't safely revive them.
- The area before Askor provides an excellent vantage point to snipe both Fallen and Vex enemies.
