Navigate Final Fantasy III's Ancients Maze

Hey there! So, you've made it to The Ancients Maze. It's not the longest dungeon, but it's a pretty important one before we head into the really long endgame areas. Think of this as a stepping stone. If you haven't dealt with the Earth Crystal yet, your first stop is due north. You'll have to face Titan there – if you need a refresher on that fight, check out the earlier section of the guide. After that, we'll backtrack and start grabbing some goodies.

Walkthrough

First things first, head back to where you entered The Ancients Maze. Make your way to the far east side, then go north. Keep an eye out, you'll find an Elixir tucked away there.

After grabbing that, continue west, then follow the first northbound path you see. This will lead you to the next section of the maze.

As soon as you enter this new area, head west. You're looking for a Crystal Shield and Lilith’s Kiss.

Got 'em? Great! Now, go east and follow the path. You'll pick up a Crystal Mail, White Musk, and Crystal Gloves as you move towards the next area.

In this next spot, go east from the entrance to find a Crystal Helm.

Now, head back south from the entrance and then east until you reach a fork that splits south and east. Take the southern path first. You'll find three treasure chests waiting for you: a Break Blade, Chocobo’s Wrath, and a Phoenix Down.

Head back north to that fork, then go east and north. Look for a path going west – this leads to the Dual Haken. Grab it!

With that in hand, go east to the next area.

This next part is pretty straightforward. Just follow the long, linear path. You'll grab a Phoenix Down and a Protect Ring along the way.

You'll arrive in an area with lava. Go north along either of the northbound paths to find the Holy Lance.

Now, head east or west along any path until you see two northbound paths close together, similar to ones you've seen before. Before heading north, go south to snag the Hellish Claws.

Finally, head north to leave The Ancients Maze. Once you're back in the overworld, save your game! Your next destination is the Crystal Tower, just to the north, and then onward to the Forbidden Land.

Tips

Keep an eye on your inventory; there are a lot of great items to pick up in this dungeon!
Don't forget to save after leaving The Ancients Maze. The Crystal Tower is next, and things are about to get serious.
