Guide to finding all eight Pluto Knights in Alexandria Castle in Final Fantasy IX. Learn strategies to get the Elixir and other items.
Walkthrough
- 1The Pluto Knights: Head back to the room where you first saw Zidane (right at the bottom of the stairs to Queen Brahne). Speak to Blutzen and Kohel. Save your game with the moogle. You can check Mognet for a letter from Kupo to Mosh if you have 50+ jumps in the jump rope mini-game. A Phoenix Down is in the bottom left corner of this room.
- 2Exit to the previous room and head north to a large room with stairs. The most troublesome Knight of Pluto will appear here. Stick to the right exit on the second floor and wait for him to descend the stairs on the left. Wait for him to run north, then meet him on the stairs to speak to Dojebon.
- 3Take the exit on the right side up top to find Mullenkedheim in the dining hall.
- 4Return to the previous room, head downstairs, and enter the room on the left (the library). Find Laudo in the lower left corner. Tell him he can’t leave.
- 5Double back to the main hall. Exit south and continue south to the courtyard with a fountain. Haagen will be south of the fountain by the water's edge.
- 6Continue left to find Weimar speaking with an Alexandrian Soldier.
- 7Enter the doorway next to you and head to the back of the long hallway to arrive in a tower. As you run up the stairs, you'll pass Breireicht. Speak to him until he gives you the Elixir for finding all eight knights.
- 8Keep going up the tower stairs and go outside to trigger the next event.
Equipment and Abilities:
- When you regain control aboard the Prima Vista, equip the Mage Masher (from the Masked Man) and the Moonstone (from the sword fighting mini-game, which teaches Beast Killer) onto Zidane.
- Abilities in Final Fantasy IX are learned via equipment. Characters gain Ability Points (AP) in battles, which contribute to learning abilities from equipped items.
- Each character can only learn specific abilities tied to certain equipment. For example, Flee on the Mage Masher is only learnable by Zidane.
- Abilities are only accessible while the equipment is equipped, unless mastered. Equipping multiple items with the same ability speeds up learning.
The Princess' Kidnapping:
- Enter the room at the bottom of the Prima Vista and speak to Ruby. Chase the Princess downstairs.
- In the engine room, turn the valve above you: left first, then right. This will drop a Phoenix Down and a Phoenix Pinion. Grab them.
- Head down the stairs and grab both items.
- Exit left to encounter Steiner. Your goal is to steal his Leather Hat and Silk Shirt before defeating him.
- After more scenes, you will battle Steiner again, this time with two knights. You will have Zidane, Marcus, Garnet (White Magic/Summons), and Vivi (Black Magic, knows Fire). Pressing L1/LB/L can change spells from single target to all targets.
- The knights will flee after a few hits, followed by Steiner. Garnet can heal if needed.
Tips
- Stand on the right side on the second floor to lure Dojebon to run down the stairs, where you can meet him more easily.
- Pressing L1/LB/L can change spells from single target to all targets, though not all spells have this function.
