Learn how to defeat Tiamat in Final Fantasy IX! This guide covers Tiamat's dangerous abilities like Jet Fire and Snort, plus the best strategies and stealable items.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Tiamat
• Abilities: Absorb Strength, Absorb Magic, Absorb MP, Silent Claw (physical, can inflict Silence), Twister (wind-elemental), Float (casts on player), Snort (counter to physical attacks on Floated characters), Jet Fire (fire-elemental, inflicts Heat).
• Weaknesses: Silence.
• Resistances: Wind protection is useful against Twister. Body Temp ability counters Heat from Jet Fire.

Phases:

1. Phase 1: Initial Assault
   Tiamat will start using its basic attacks and begin absorbing your stats. The longer this phase lasts, the more dangerous Tiamat becomes.
2. Phase 2: Escalating Threat
   Tiamat's attacks, especially Silent Claw and Twister, become more potent as it absorbs more Strength and Magic. Jet Fire becomes a major threat, potentially inflicting Heat.
3. Phase 3: The Final Push
   With significant stat absorption, Tiamat's attacks can easily KO your party members. The risk of Snort is high if characters are Floated and physically attacked.

Strategy:

• Silence is Golden: Tiamat is susceptible to Silence. Casting Silence on Tiamat early can prevent it from using its most dangerous abilities like Jet Fire and Absorb Magic, and also stops it from casting Float on your party.
• Beware of Float and Snort: Tiamat can cast Float on your characters. If a Floated character is physically attacked, Tiamat will counter with Snort, removing that character from the battle permanently. To avoid this, either keep Tiamat Silenced, or refrain from using physical attacks on Floated characters.
• Combat Heat: Jet Fire is Tiamat's most devastating attack, hitting your entire party and inflicting Heat. Ensure all your characters have the Body Temp ability equipped to negate the Heat status effect. Equip gear with fire protection to reduce the damage from Jet Fire.
• Wind Protection: While not as critical as fire or heat protection, having wind protection can help mitigate damage from Tiamat's Twister attack. Ribbons are excellent as they also protect against Silence and Heat, and can even heal you from Twister.
• End the Fight Quickly: Tiamat gets stronger the longer the battle goes on due to its Absorb abilities. Focus on dealing consistent damage and don't let the fight drag out.
• Steal Valuable Loot: Zidane can steal some excellent items from Tiamat. Don't miss the chance to steal a Blood Sword, Feather Boots, and Grand Helm. These are powerful additions to your inventory.
• After the Battle: Once Tiamat is defeated, proceed by entering the giant eye to continue your journey.
