Navigate the linear Crystal World in Final Fantasy IX, face crystal versions of Memoria bosses, and defeat Deathguise and Trance Kuja with this detailed walkthrough.

The Crystal World is a linear area with no treasure and new encounters. The regular enemies are crystal versions of Memoria's main bosses, with reduced health and increased susceptibility to status ailments. Lich and Maliris retain their abilities (Maliris loses Raining Swords), while Kraken gains the 'Trouble Counter' move and loses tentacles. Tiamat no longer uses Float and Snort. These encounters yield 7 AP each but no experience. The path is straightforward, leading to a save point with an option to teleport back to Memoria's beginning (a one-way trip). Prepare for the upcoming boss fight by equipping wind protection, ideally Ribbons, and ensuring character levels are not divisible by five.

BOSS - Deathguise

Deathguise is a challenging boss. It begins with Meteor, a powerful random-damage attack. It has two forms: an open form for physical attacks (Demon’s Claw, Spin) and a closed form for magical attacks (LV5 Death, Death, Twister). Deathguise takes a turn to switch forms. Physical attacks can be mitigated with Protect. LV5 Death is avoidable by having character levels not divisible by five, and Twister can be negated with Ribbons. Death can KO a character. Deathguise is weak to wind and ice, and vulnerable to sleep and slow. Putting it to sleep allows for safe spellcasting. The opening Meteor attack is the biggest threat. Stealable items include Elixir, Black Belt, and Duel Claws.

After defeating Deathguise, return to the save point to rest and save. Approach Kuja for the next boss battle.

BOSS - Trance Kuja

Trance Kuja requires high magic defense. There are no specific items to protect against his spells. While items can be stolen, they are not particularly valuable. Trance Kuja uses upgraded spells, including Flare Star, which can be used as a counter when his health is low. Flare Star's damage is based on character levels (level x 35). Auto-Regen can help but doesn't replace a healer. Other spells include Flare and Holy (single-target), Curaga, and Reflect. Be cautious of Reflect when using spells.
