The Paladin class is pretty balanced, offering good offensive and defensive capabilities. The Defender skill is fantastic for encouraging pair-ups. When your Paladin is paired up and in attack stance, all their stats get a nice +1 boost! This can make them incredibly tanky, though keep in mind that units in guard stance can't attack, so you'll have to consider the trade-off of having one less active unit on the field. Still, it's a great way to make a durable unit.

Aegis is a chance-based skill, so its effectiveness will depend on your unit's Skill stat and a bit of luck. However, it can significantly reduce incoming damage from bows, magic, daggers, Dragonstones, and breath attacks. This skill is especially useful when combined with other defensive skills, like Armored Blow, to further bolster a unit that might otherwise be a bit fragile.

Even if you don't plan on keeping a unit as a Paladin long-term, it's definitely worth grabbing the Aegis skill before reclassing. Plus, Paladins are mounted units, meaning they have a naturally large movement range, which is always a huge advantage on the battlefield!
