Unlock all Freeride settings and learn the fastest ways to make money in Mafia: The Old Country, including taxi missions and speeding.
Walkthrough
- 1Start a Freeride session.
- 2Send Tommy to the east side of the southwest-most block of the Works Quarter.
- 3Have him go south down an alley until you see four wooden crates (three with one on top) on the right.
- 4Turn left towards a yellow-brown door.
- 5When you see an exclamation point icon (indicating an action is possible) in the bottom-left corner of the screen, right-click.
- 6Save the game. This will unlock all Freeride settings, the ability to adjust traffic, pedestrian, and police patrol density sliders, and Freeride Extreme at any time from the start of the game.
Freeride Settings Availability:
- City-Small: Available at the start. Limits access to parts of the city and excludes Terranova Bridge, Chinatown, Oakwood, Oak Hill, or the countryside.
- City-Night: Available after mission 8 ("Sarah/Better Get Used to It"). Allows access to the whole city and countryside at night.
- Countryside-Night: Available after mission 8 ("Sarah/Better Get Used to It"). Same as City-Night, but Tommy starts in the countryside.
- City-Daytime: Available after mission 14 ("Happy Birthday!"). Allows access to the whole city and countryside during the daytime.
- Countryside-Daytime: Available after mission 14 ("Happy Birthday!"). Same as City-Daytime, but Tommy starts in the countryside.
Area Choices:
- City-Night and City-Daytime: Offer choices of Little Italy, Central Island, Down Town, and Hoboken.
- Countryside-Night and Countryside-Daytime: Offer choices of the China Town Exit, Dam, Lay By, and Motel.
Freeride Extreme and Sliders: Until you succeed at all main story missions, you cannot adjust the sliders for Traffic, Pedestrian, and Police Patrol Density, or play "Freeride Extreme," unless you use the unlock gimmick described above.
Speeding for Money:
- Tommy gets $100 for every several seconds he drives over 70 mph. After completing the main story missions, this threshold increases to 105 mph.
- The fastest way to make money in Freeride is to unlock Freeride Extreme using the gimmick, then unlock fast vehicles (like the HotRod, which can be used as a taxi). Alternatively, use the gimmick to unlock Freeride Extreme vehicles even faster.
- You can drive fast in the country, for example, taking a HotRod north of Hoboken and driving back and forth over the first long stretch of road. There are no police or gangsters in the country in Freeride.
Taxi Missions:
- A less risky way to make initial money is by giving Taxi rides until you have at least a few thousand dollars. This is slower than speeding in the country but safer before unlocking the countryside.
- After saving the game, you will have enough money to pay for health restoration or police fines.
- Once you stop a vehicle for a taxi mission and a passenger enters, you cannot control the vehicle until they exit. The destination is shown briefly, a compass appears, and a blue X on the map or a blue arrow points to the location. The destination is indicated by a red X on the radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked) when close.
- If an unwanted fare enters your taxi, you can have Tommy eject them by pressing the right mouse button (RMB).
Police and Gangsters in Freeride:
- The rules for police apply to Freeride. The speed ranges for speeding offenses change after completing the main story missions.
- Minor offense speed range: Over 40 mph to not more than 70 mph (before main story completion); Over 60 mph to not more than 105 mph (after main story completion).
- Major offense speed range: Over 70 mph (before main story completion); Over 105 mph (after main story completion).
- Warning: Tommy has to pay $1,000 for a minor offense if apprehended by a policeman in Freeride.
Tips
- To maximize money-making, unlock Freeride Extreme and fast vehicles as early as possible using the described gimmick.
- The countryside is ideal for high-speed money-making due to the absence of police and gangsters.
- Taxi missions offer a safer, albeit slower, alternative for accumulating initial funds, especially before the countryside is accessible.
- Always save your game after performing the unlock gimmick to ensure the settings are retained.
