Learn how to find and catch the legendary Fire/Steel-type Pokémon Heatran in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Get tips on its weaknesses and the best Poké Balls to use.
Alright, so you've made it to Stark Mountain and dealt with Charon. Good job! After Looker swoops in and arrests him, Buck will put the Magma Stone back. He'll tell you to head back to the Survival Area. Once you're there, find Buck's Grandfather at the Battleground cafe. Chat with him, and then you'll be able to head back into Stark Mountain to the room where Charon was nabbed. That's where Heatran is waiting!
Heatran Info & Strategy:
- Level: 50
- Type: Fire/Steel
- Weaknesses: Water, Fighting, and especially Ground-type attacks.
- Tips: Heatran can be stalled with Attract since it has a gender. Bringing a Pokémon with Flash Fire is a great idea, as it makes them immune to Heatran's Fire attacks like Lava Plume and Fire Spin. This leaves Heatran with only Iron Head, which it takes half damage from. If you can paralyze Heatran early, you'll save a lot of turns spent healing. A strong Water or Ground-type Pokémon is recommended. If you have False Swipe, save it for when Heatran's HP is low.
- Catching: Heatran has a really low catch rate, so be prepared to use a lot of Ultra Balls (maybe up to 50!). Dark Balls might also help.
Once you've caught Heatran, there isn't much else to do in Stark Mountain besides grabbing a few items using Rock Climb. So, head back to the entrance.
