Complete walkthrough for Route 205 (Eterna City side) in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, including Pokémon encounters, fishing, and items.
The Pokémon encounters on Route 205 are largely the same across different times of day, making it primarily a place for leveling up Pokémon. You may also encounter a few fishermen on the bridge who you can battle. After exploring Route 205, head east to Eterna City.
Eterna City Guide:
Upon arriving in Eterna City, first visit the Pokémon Center to heal your party. Next, go to the house adjacent to the Pokémon Center and speak with the old man to receive the Explorer Kit, which is necessary to explore the Underground. The Underground allows you to dig for items, though some may not appear until you obtain the National Pokédex.
As you head north from Eterna City, your rival will appear and escort you to the Pokémon Statue in the northern part of town. There, you will encounter the blue-haired man again. When you attempt to head west, Cynthia will appear. After a conversation, she will give you HM 01 (Cut). While you cannot use it immediately, obtaining the Eterna City Gym badge will enable its use.
You can visit the Herb Shop to purchase less expensive medicine, but be aware that these items may decrease your Pokémon's friendship. Next to the Pokémart is a condominium where you can trade a Buizel for a Chatot. This Chatot is a Flying/Normal type that is not particularly strong in battle and is not encountered until much later in the game.
When you are ready, proceed to the Eterna City Gym, located in the lower right corner of the town.
Eterna City Gym:
Eterna City's Gym features a unique design centered around a large, flower-like clock. This clock rotates after each trainer battle, revealing new sections of the gym. After defeating all three trainers, the dial will lead you to the Gym Leader, Gardenia.
