    Change to your Quake directory (default c:\quake_sw) and load Quake by typing 'Quake'.

    For modem connections, type: 'COMX baud X modem startup (INIT string) enable', for example: 'COM1 baud 28800 modem startup ATZ enable'. Refer to section [15-4] for a list of modem INIT strings. For direct connect games, skip typing an INIT string.

    Type 'connect XXXXXXXXXX', replacing XXXXXXXXXX with the server's telephone number. For direct connect games, type 'connect #'.

    Type 'slist' to display a list of Quake games on the server.

    Type 'connect X', where X is the name of the Quake game you wish to join.

    You should now be ready to play.
Tips
  • For direct connect games, you do not need to type in an INIT string.
