Learn how to catch, train, and breed Insectors in Rogue Company's Insectron mini-game. Build a winning team for the Insectron Tournament with this guide.

Insectron is introduced during Chapter 2. If you decide you want to pursue this side quest and mini-game, your goal is to catch and train Insectors, building a team of five high-ranking Insectors to compete in the Insectron Tournament. During the Chapter 2 event, you acquire an Insector Trap to catch some Insectors and a Rearing Cage to train and breed Insectors up to higher ranks.

Generally speaking, you will want to:

  • Catch Insectors
  • Raise the Insectors from larva to adulthood
  • Breed the adult Insectors to produce a higher-ranking offspring
  • Repeat the process until you have five high-ranking Insectors
  • Compete in the Insectron Tournament

Catching Insectors

To catch an Insector, find a spot where you want to place your Trap and then open the Menu.

  • Select the Insector Trap in the Item list and highlight "Place Food"
  • Select from the Item list the item you want to use as bait
  • Select the Insector Trap again (now loaded with bait) and choose "Setup"
  • Use [Button Prompt] to adjust the target location and press [Button Prompt] to place the Trap

Once the Trap is placed, you will see activity at the trap after 5 minutes pass in the game as long as you don't leave the Menu open. Then the Trap will emit an audible chime. If you aren't near enough to hear the chime, the Trap also sends a signal to your Info Edge.

Activity at the Trap doesn't necessarily mean you have caught an Insector. Check the Trap and you may find that you have caught one. It is also possible that an Insector will sniff the bait but not enter the Trap, or that an Insector will steal your bait and leave.

There are many different types of Insectors, each with its own strengths, weaknesses and special abilities during an Insectron match. You can increase your chances to catch a specific type of Insector with the Trap you use and the bait you choose.

One thing to remember about catching Insectors is that nothing is absolute. Place your trap and you may catch an Insector, you may not. The Insector you catch may not be the type you were hoping for. You may catch an Insector that normally would be more commonly caught in another Trap or more interested in a different type of bait.

If the Insector you catch is not the one you want, you can set it free and try again. You may want to hang onto it, though, and breed it with another Insector later.

Insector Types

There are several different types of Insectors, each one described in more detail below. Within each type of Insector are eight Insector Ranks. A higher-rank Insector will have increased HP, STR, DEF and Resistances. The Insectors you catch will be Rank 1, 2 or 3. To obtain a higher rank Insector, you need to breed it with another Insector.

Insectors bring different skills to the Insectron Tournament. Like any battle party, you can build a strong team of Insectors if you include some with support abilities to complement your attackers. The more desirable attackers are those with "knockback" abilities that can remove an opponent's Insector from play by forcing it out of bounds. The Flutterbug, Hercules Beetle, Itsahorse, Staggy and Dark Emperor are in this class. Other Insectors offer a variety of support abilities that can be useful during a Tournament match. A Faerie can charm an opponent's Insector into fighting for your team. A Lady Beetle can heal and remove poison from nearby allies. The Springtail can mesmerize opponents, making them lose turns. A Stingbee can poison an opponent, causing it to lose HP each turn (useful even against the opponent's King in high-level matches).

The entries below provide information about the different types of Insectors. They include some locations where you are likely to catch that type of Insector, the Trap you are likely to be most successful with, and the type of bait the Insector prefers. Information is also provided about the Insector's movement rate and special skills during an Insectron Tournament match.
