Simon, unfortunately, has more weaknesses than strengths. Both of his weapons are intended for attacking from a distance. That doesn't stop Simon from attacking at close range. What other character in any game can you equip with a flamethrower and watch as he uses it to bludgeon the enemy? With limited close-quarters offense, Simon has no charge attack to remove enemy shields. In battles with shielded enemies, someone else will have to remove the shields so Simon can attack.
Simon does have access to some good abilities. He can self-buff with Amplification or Ghost Buster. Gelanamin X is a party attack-boosting ability that also increases status resistances. Missile Squall is Simon's most powerful multi-target ability, but Raging Dragon and Shake-Shake are useful as well.
