Learn about the dangerous Wilderness in RuneScape, including Player Killing (PK), skull mechanics, wilderness levels, and the differences from RSC.
The Wilderness is the only place in the World of Runescape where you can attack and kill other players. It's a dangerous area where you can lose all your items if you die unprepared.
Attacking another player in the Wilderness results in a 20-minute skull above your head. If you die while skulled, you will lose all carried items.
Player Killing (PK) is the term for attacking or killing another player. A number in the bottom-right of your screen indicates your Wilderness level. This number determines the level range of players you can attack and those who can attack you. For example, in level 5 Wilderness, you can only attack players 5 levels higher or lower than you. Deeper Wilderness levels allow higher-level players to attack you, increasing the danger.
RS2's Wilderness differs from RSC's by allowing teaming and immediate escape from combat. You can run away from a fight, and players can chase you. Teaming, where a group attacks a single player (e.g., 4 vs. 1), is a common tactic.
