This section covers the history and in-game details of three submachine guns: the Uzi, the P90, and the FMG9. Each weapon has unique characteristics and unlock methods.

Uzi

The Uzi is a submachine gun design dating back to the late 1940s, developed by Uziel Gal. It was adopted by the Israeli Defense Force in 1951 and became a globally recognized SMG. Original models featured a wooden stock, while others have a folding metal stock. The grip houses the magazine well and a rear grip safety. Sights are protected by distinctive semi-circular ears. The modernized version in Hardline includes a top mount for optics and an underbarrel rail for attachments. Shorter variants like the Mini Uzi and Micro Uzi were also developed. The Micro Uzi evolved into the Uzi Pro Pistol. The Uzi has previously appeared in other Battlefield titles.

P90

Summary: The P90 is a PDW with a high rate of fire and relatively low damage, but it maintains its four-hit kill range out to 20 meters. Its main advantage is the large 50-round magazine, mitigating the slow reload time. It has poor stationary standing ADS accuracy, making long-range engagements difficult. Vertical recoil is low, but horizontal and first-shot recoil are average. The P90 comes equipped with the heavy barrel.

Patches:

• February 2015 Beta (PC): Spread increase per shot for stationary standing hipfire was increased by a factor of four; other situations unchanged.
• Getaway patch: Moving ADS spread improved slightly for all bullpup weapons, including the P90.

Trivia: Manufactured by FN Herstal and launched in 1990, the P90 is an early Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) known for its compact design, high rate of fire, and use of custom ammunition. The 5.7x28mm cartridge was designed alongside the P90 and FN57 pistol for superior performance over 9mm rounds. The 5.7mm round's lighter weight and the P90's novel top-mounted magazine design allow for its high ammo capacity. 5.7x28mm became a NATO standard in early 2021. When fitted with the heavy barrel in Hardline, it resembles the civilian PS90 model. The Weevil SMG in Call of Duty: Black Ops III is based on the P90's design.
