Era Score is a dynamic system in Civilization VII that tracks your civilization's achievements throughout history, directly influencing the transition between Eras and the powerful bonuses known as Dedications. Mastering Era Score generation is key to achieving Golden Ages and avoiding Dark Ages.

Era Score is earned by performing various positive actions that represent significant advancements or milestones. These include, but are not limited to:

• Discovering new continents and natural wonders.
• Building specific districts and wonders.
• Completing civic and technology research.
• Achieving certain population milestones in your cities.
• Winning battles against barbarians or enemy units.
• Completing quests and objectives presented by the game.
• Making significant diplomatic gains or establishing trade routes.

As you accumulate Era Score, you progress towards the next Era. Reaching certain thresholds within an Era determines whether you enter a Golden Age, a Normal Age, or a Dark Age. A Golden Age grants you a powerful Dedication bonus, which provides a significant boost to your civilization for the duration of that Era. These Dedications can range from increased production in all cities to enhanced combat strength for specific unit types, or boosted science and culture yields.

Conversely, failing to generate enough Era Score can lead to a Dark Age. While Dark Ages present challenges, they also offer unique opportunities. During a Dark Age, you can choose a "Heroic Age" option, which provides a more potent, albeit riskier, set of bonuses compared to a standard Golden Age. However, if you fail to achieve a Golden Age after a Dark Age, you risk entering an even more challenging "Heroic Dark Age."

To maximize your Era Score, actively pursue actions that grant the most points. For example, building a wonder often grants a substantial amount of Era Score. Similarly, completing a civic or technology that unlocks a new unit or district can provide a significant boost. Pay attention to the Era Score tracker on the HUD to gauge your progress and adjust your strategy accordingly.

The choice of Dedication in a Golden Age is also a critical strategic decision. Analyze your current game state and your civilization's objectives. If you are struggling with production, a production-focused Dedication might be ideal. If you are aiming for a science victory, a science-boosting Dedication would be more appropriate.
