• Attack Types: The specific projectiles they shoot, the way they move, or the melee attacks they use.
• Timing: The intervals between attacks, the duration of an attack, or the delay before a new phase begins.
• Sequences: The order in which different attacks are performed. For example, a boss might always perform a jump attack followed by a projectile barrage.
• Environmental Triggers: Certain attacks or phase changes might be triggered by specific player actions, like dealing a certain amount of damage or being in a particular part of the arena.

Identifying Patterns

Example: Grim Matchstick

Grim Matchstick, the dragon boss, is a prime example. In his first phase, he has distinct patterns for breathing fireballs, transforming into a spider-like creature, and shooting lasers. Recognizing the animation for each attack allows you to anticipate and react accordingly. For instance, when he rears back to breathe fireballs, you know to move to a safe spot or prepare to parry pink ones. When he transforms, you know a different set of attacks is coming.

The Role of EX Moves and Supers

EX moves and Super Arts are powerful tools for exploiting patterns. An EX move can often grant invincibility frames, allowing you to dash through an attack you might otherwise struggle to dodge. A Super Art can be used to skip a particularly dangerous part of a pattern or to deal massive damage during a prolonged vulnerable window.
