Learn how to find and defeat the secret boss Eight-Arm Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. Get tips on his attacks and strategies for victory.

Alright, so you've made it to your third playthrough (or beyond) in Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, and you're ready to take on one of the game's secret bosses: Eight-Arm Gilgamesh! This guy is no joke, and he'll pop up randomly on the overworld via portals. If you lose, he'll steal your character's equipped weapon, but if you win, you get that character's ultimate weapon. So, definitely come prepared!

When and Where to Find Gilgamesh:

It's a bit of a mystery what exactly triggers these portals to appear, but they can start showing up as early as after you clear the mission in Chapter 4 and exit the Deserted House. Some players believe you need to defeat Gilgamesh a total of three times across different chapters (Chapter 6, Chapter 8, and during Machina’s Struggle on NG+) for the portals to become more frequent. The first portal often appears in Old Lorica, and you'll likely encounter it when the story forces you to that region.

The portals can appear in four main locations, and they cycle through these spots in order. Once you've hit all four, they'll start over from the beginning:

  • Old Lorica region (near Black Tortoise Crevasse).
  • Azurr District (close to the imperial capital).
  • Rilochy Province (near the royal palace).
  • Innsmouth Region.

Battling Gilgamesh:

Fighting Gilgamesh is similar to his previous encounters, but he's significantly tougher this time around, sporting Level 65 and a wider array of attacks. Just like before, your regular attacks won't do much damage on their own. Your main strategy needs to revolve around landing Breaksights to actually make progress in defeating him.

Gilgamesh's Attacks:

  • He'll shoot projectiles at you.
  • He'll charge forward, swinging his swords, and then slam them into the ground, creating a small shockwave around him.
  • His weapons will glow and float out of his hands, then shoot up into the sky before raining down on your location. You'll need to dodge quickly to avoid taking too much damage.
  • He'll stab with his swords and then perform the overhead slam mentioned earlier.
  • Gilgamesh can also perform the overhead smash as a standalone attack.
  • He'll unleash a series of slashes, finishing with a projectile blast.

Strategy Tips:

  • Breaksights are Crucial: Remember that when you trigger a Breaksight, you need to stop attacking immediately. If you keep wailing on him, you'll miss out on the Breaksight streak bonus when he kneels down.
  • Dodge Everything: There are no new moves added to his moveset at any point. Your primary focus should be on dodging all the attacks listed above.
  • Patience is a Virtue: Seriously, patience is the absolute key to winning any fight against Gilgamesh. Don't get greedy with attacks; focus on survival and landing those crucial Breaksights.
  • Prepare Your Party: Since he can pull any character into battle, make sure all your active party members are well-equipped and at a decent level. You never know who you'll be fighting him with!
