How to Win a Capture the Flag Match
Know When to Drop the Flag
When carrying the flag, it's crucial to know when to drop it. Dropping the flag allows you to wield your weapon for defense, increasing your chances of survival, especially when outnumbered. A dropped flag remains in place as long as you stay within its highlighted circle boundary, giving you the option to defend it effectively. However, there are times when holding onto the flag is better. If you are very close to the capture point, it might be worth the risk to continue running. Even if you die, you might secure the capture. In close-quarters combat or when an enemy is within range, a melee attack can be more effective than shooting, as you can often defeat enemies with two melee hits while carrying the flag. If there's very little time left in the game, consider making a run for the capture point even if pursued, as it could be your team's last chance.
Generally, it's better to be patient and move with your team rather than going alone. Instinctively knowing when to be patient and when to make a run for it will develop with more gameplay experience.
Stick With Your Team
Moving as a cohesive unit is vital in most Halo Infinite multiplayer modes, including Capture the Flag. Sticking together helps defend the flag if it's dropped, preventing it from returning to the enemy spawn. Having allies nearby increases the chances of fending off organized attacks. If you're carrying the flag and get attacked, dropping it allows you to defend yourself and your team more effectively. You can monitor the match situation via flag icons on your screen.
While staying together is important, it doesn't mean being on top of each other. Instead, take up tactical positions with good sightlines to anticipate enemy attacks and provide covering fire. Maintaining line of sight with allies without being too close prevents vulnerability to Area of Effect (AoE) attacks. Utilize power equipment like Drop Wall or Repulsor strategically during critical moments to protect the flag and your team from overwhelming enemy firepower.
Use Power Equipment, Vehicles & Map Features
Power items like the Grappleshot can enhance maneuverability, allowing for faster navigation and reaching defensive points quicker. Other power items are excellent for defending specific locations.
